Mr Erdogan as a matter of REALPOLITIK has to drop his friends at the Muslim Brotherhood --- his trouble is that the previous friends at ISIS gradually become a serious nuisance to Turkey
Recently Erdogan has had a trend of picking the wrong friends.
For example, the insurgency led by the Islamic Sate of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in Iraq has had a severe affect on Turkish companies selling goods to Iraq, as consumer demand has shrunk and the cost of shipping has surged.

That claim justifies Islamist calls for Sharia in the Americas. Next one is proof Neil Armstrong converted to Islam, then we can have Sharia on the moon.
What's this about converting.

The name Neil Armstrong is in fact a mispronounciation of Mehmet Ahmed Salaam, often misinterpreted due to post-sylabbic differences between the Ohian dialect of Turkish and that of mainland Turkey. Have you forgotten his famous words "A small step for Ottoman, a giant leap for mankind".

Indeed, ISIS is doing bank-robberies in Turkey, and the Mursi-folks proved a failure in Egypt. And to oppose FieldMarshal as-Sisi was not very shrewd

Good article on BBC: Erdogan's 'New Turkey' drifts towards isolation

could not have been summarized better:
Quote:
And yet, among his faithful, he retains his support. The 52% who elected him president care little about a Twitter ban or claims of corruption, which they believe swirl around most politicians.

For them, the transformation of a financial basket-case to the world's 17th largest economy in the past decade is what matters - new hospitals, roads and schools.

His supporters, mainly religious conservatives, feel liberated by their president's encouragement to wear headscarves in schools and universities, previously banned by 80 years of secularist rule. And they love his strongman image - the leader willing to stand up to the West.

Turkey got the leader it wants (Will Nil groan that the BBC?). Shame that so many Turks have and will pay a hefty price for it.

We have to realize that Western ideals of Liberalism & human rights are not (yet?) globably accepted.

Millions of Turks have PROFITED from his economic successes, just as millions of Germans did in 1933 to 1935

Let's admit it, the guy is full of ideas and manages to successfully steer the public attention away from more crucial issues:

Erdoğan: ‘women not equal to men’

Now I can barely wait to see a woman kick his butt. I genuinely believe that women are one of the few remaining hopes for that part of the world.

Erdogan quickly working to his level of incompetence.

When Erdogan spoke at the UN, a lot of the seats were empty. When el-Sisi spoke at the UN, he was greeted by a full house in standing ovation. Here is one of the reasons why:

Foreigners don’t like Muslims, only their money: Turkish President Erdoğan

Erdogan is trying to position himself as a leader of the Muslim world; problem is that if people start laughing at him he will likely overreact!

He was speaking at the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) which sounds pretty impressive.
It is hard to find out who is attending this meeting and what level they are. So far as I can see no other country sends a president or prime minister. The organisation claims to have been around 50 years but does not seem to have achieved much.
An example ""There is no doubt that such figures show that Islamic countries have delivered a successful performance in economy," Erdogan said, urging member states to take necessary steps to put in place a Trade Preferential System, an initiative that the COMCEC has been working on for almost 20 years. "

Most meetings are held in Turkey and are led by Turks.

Clear aspirations for an empire. He's solidified domestic politics to the point that nobody can stand up to him. He'll be sidelining Davutoglu shortly, and will be chairing the cabinets. Without much of a political challenge at home, he will seek to expand his domain outside Turkey's borders soon afterwards.

I have to admit that region needs good solid leadership. But I don't think he is the one to do it peacefully. His condescendence towards the Kurds is an indication of how he would likely deal with other cultural differences . This Us vs. Them narrative is an ominous sign of upcoming conflicts. I think he intends to vindicate for Europe's rebuff.

There is an elephant in the NATO room.

The Change I mentioned had an interesting history. Mustafa Kemal Pasha had appointed a sizeable COMMISSION to work out a new Turkish Orthography on the Basis of the Western Alphabet. But after a while realized that they did not get ahead. And in one evening, he with the help of a German dictionary started to establish a new Turkish Alphabet and Orthography and got it approved by parliament the next day

No joke but truth.
