Your 'logic' appears to be that some forms of arbitrary killing are better than others, and those perpetrated by a 'civilised' society are better that those perpetrated by extremists. I can imagine a lot people disagreeing with you on that.
What screwed up world do you come from to make you think enterig a school and killing 120 people is abitrary or "collatoral" damage... Sick or idiotic. Take your pick. This was no accident.

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

I think most people would struggle to comprehend motives behind acts such as this one. Religion has been mentioned. Boko Haram have carried out attacks on school children too.

When I hear about seemingly religiously-motivated atrocities like these I remember what Richard Dawkins said "Without religion, good people would do good things and bad people would do bad things; it takes religion for good people to do bad things"

I am inclined to disagree with him. These are not cases of good people doing what they believe to be right. This transcends bad people doing bad things, this is more soulless creatures doing pure evil.

I don't even think something as powerful as religion can create a monster from a good person. They'd had to have been a monster anyway. Religion is an excuse to act upon wanton wrongdoing

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

This is the lowest ebb of humanity.

Can't understand, declare jihad if Muslims get killed by US and their allies, but the same people kill their own!!

Churchill rightly said " religion is the opium of the masses", only people not of sound mind/senses can massacre children.

If they were avenging Malala's Nobel Prize and global regoginition, it just shows how ill founded the beliefs of these terrorist organisations are and thus the insecurity which they seek to protect by imbibing fear in people's mind.

They just made Malala's a bigger hero and idol for many more Malala's

RIP the lost innocent souls

It just makes no sense. What is to be gained by doing this?
They are terrorists. By definition do they want to inflict terror and well - they did.

Raiding a school like this is not the work of some single crazy gunman like the one in Sydney - it is a well planned operation involving dozens of people. Showing that you have the capability to carry this out and kill the kids of the military personnel which is supposed to protect the public from the terrorists gives a simple message the Taliban want to promote: The Pakistani government does not have control in this region of their country.

I am pretty sure that was actually Karl Marx, not Churchill.

I live in the same "screwed up" world as you where violence and killing and inhumanity breeds violence and killing and inhumanity and no sanitising term like "collateral damage" can disguise the horror of it.

Bad example. (a) as has already been pointed out, it was not him who said it and (b) Churchill was the architect of fire bombing campaign of German cities which was deliberately designed to inflict massive civilian casualties on a scale that the Taliban could only, in their most perverse dreams, dream of.
Today, this would be a war crime (when perpetrated by the losing side, of course).

This should galvanize a unified Pakistani resolve against the terrorist, out of self-respect. They should not wait for anything worse. Killing these children are as atrocious as it can possibly be.

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

I would gladly start a debate about calling the Taliban a "religion" but this thread should be about the horror, disbelief and discussing the pure egoistic, sadistic behaviour of a band of men who killed and tortured innocent children. It should also focus on the current political situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, why such an incident occurred and how to prevent such atrocities in the future.

The only way you can stop it in future is to lock up the Taliban leaders.

The actual people who commit the atrocities are the brain-washed minions who are nothing without guidance.

The reasons are very clear, it was a revenge attack for an aerial bombardment by the Pakistani military some weeks earlier that had killed hundreds of Taliban members.
Its no accident that this was a military run school for officer's children.

Quote:
"We selected the army's school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females," said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani. "We want them to feel the pain."

Some people worship statues as part of their religion. Far from any of us to say it isn't a religion.

These are the ones that need to be debated and convinced their cause is not religious. Then you might finally have stoppage of these kinds of actions.

In the meantime, Pakistan has just lifted its moratorium on the death penalty for terrorists.

their leaders are killed quite often. consider them like the Hydra, when you kill one, more will graduate and take their place. One needs to attack the ideology, if that's possible, or make joining the Taliban unattractive

As a parallel, I would have thought that joining ISIS was pretty unattractive: living in makeshift camps and chopping off peoples' heads but some people from the UK and other places find that extremely appealing (or at least more attractive than their current life).

One the most ironic sentences I've come across. 'Unified' 'Pakistan' & 'self respect' all together! Let us not forget the Bin Laden was found a stones throw from a military garrison INSIDE Pakistan.

You could try and ban the import of heroin which would be like a trade embargo.

Wait, hasn't every single nation been trying that like forever ....?
