I just saw this and its absolutely heartbreaking. Young children are utterly and completely innocent and should be excluded from any kind of dispute between adults of whatever sort.

Its only a pity they killed the gunmen, I'd have preferred to see them locked up in a dungeon forever, and I'm generally quite a liberal on the capital punshment front.

It just makes no sense. What is to be gained by doing this?

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

Religion is being used as an umbrella to cover their insecurities and damaged egos.

This has nothing to do with religion nor for the pretense of creating a better society. This is an act of evil, cowardness and lack of intelligence. If they wanted to get global attention, they certainly have it. However, how will it help their "cause"?

What is it with these thug-like organisations? What has happened in their lives to provoke such a mentality?

I shake my head in utter frustration and my hearts go out to all those suffering families.

When the banner they flock to is a religious cause, the laws they want to implement is religious based, their members are of the same religion, and their politics based on religious traditions, I don't know how anyone can say it does not have anything to do with religion.

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

Echo all of the above. And exactly because it was the military's kids that the Taliban picked it as a target.

The streets of Peshawar are but a few kilometers from Afghanistan and the borders have never been secure. Whilst Pakistan has been arming itself to the teeth against its traditional Indian enemy, the Taliban and fundamentalists have made the northern areas of Pakistan resemble a civil war zone.

And you'll never be able to stop terrorists that are willing to die for their cause. Lawlessness reigns and this isn't about to change because of this atrocity. Recall how many times US Forces have employed drones and special forces in-country without informing the Pakistan authorities. Because they're not trusted.

Why children? Why, why? It's even more shocking, more heart breaking.
Cowards. Bastards. There's no such a punishment that could be appropriate for them.

Indeed. But, a question: would it have been any more humane if the Taliban had committed this act using a drone strike instead of simple weapons ? If we have not spoken out, we are complicit in this crime.

Sorry me anon, but that is a low question, it plays no role if by AK47, Drone, nuke or strangling, you do not INTENTIONALLY target kids.

It plays no role if it is wanton killing or 'collateral' damage. The result is the same. Grieving families and a sense of injustice which perpetuates a cycle of killings.

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

Children. That's really a new low.
But IS has been doing this for months. And nobody really stood up, except for the Kurds (labeled as terrorist by the Turkish government...).
I think, if you kill children in such a brutal, face-to-face way, you put yourself really outside humanity. Or at least outside civilization.
It's barbaric, even neolithic.
A lion that has taken over a pride of lions will kill all baby-lions conceived by his predecessor (there are probably more examples in the animal world).
That's the kind of level the Taliban and IS have lowered themselves onto.

But humans are not animals. They've got big fat, ing brains. They've got reason. They've got a conscience.

I hope there's a special place in hell for these people.

OTOH, it show just how brave (and stupid, in a way) a girl like Malala Yousafzai was.
Doing what she did, in such a political climate, in such an environment. Unbelievable.

I don't think any of us armchair peace-activists can comprehend what it takes living there, let alone sticking your head out.

Setting a teacher on fire, then beheading children. These were people trying to educate their children for a better life. You find this equal to collateral casualties from a drone strike trying to stop these same guys? I can't imagine Pakistanis themselves agreeing with you on that.

Re: Taliban kill over 120 in Pakistan

Since morning all I could think of was of those poor children , facing death at the hands of those men. Used as humanly shields , randomly shot at .
I kept wondering , where do these guns come from - guns pointed at these innocent children ,people in Pakistani, Syria , Ukraine ? WHERE DO THESE WEAPONS COME FROM ?
I mean it has to be mass produced somewhere to reach these people .....
At the end of the day all I could do was wonder and pray....

Your 'logic' appears to be that some forms of arbitrary killing are better than others, and those perpetrated by a 'civilised' society are better that those perpetrated by extremists. I can imagine a lot people disagreeing with you on that.
