Gatwick Airport currently closed (Virgin plane problem)

A Virgin Atlantic plane had to return to Gatwick a while ago with landing gear problems. It landed safely but is on the runway and therefore the airport is currently closed

Passengers are now off the plane. Runway will remain cloed for at least another hour

Plane has now been moved and the rumnway has been reopened. There is bound to be a backlog of flights and diversions

I feel so sorry for anyone who's been stuck there. Hope everyone can get off as quickly as possible now!

Re: Gatwick Airport currently closed (Virgin plane problem)

Mayhem.
Was supposed to be on the 18:15 EJ to ZH. Almost 24 hours later I'm sitting at Ldn city about to board a Swiss flight (150) as there are no available EJ flights till tomorrow.
Got lucky and had a hotel room at Gatwick on EJ, but i was the first in a wave of about 4000 passengers needing the same.

Total cluster fk, but hats of to that Virgin crew for bringing her in safely. Apparently m23 & railway by Gatwick was closed as she came in and the royal sussex in Brighton was on high alert for a possible 'major incident '...

Re: Gatwick Airport currently closed (Virgin plane problem)

We arrived into Basel (from Manchester) at about 20:30 yesterday evening and the luggage for the (presumably cancelled - the inbound flight landed OK) outbound EZY flight to LGW was just going round the conveyor belt thing. It must have been there for a few hours, with nobody caring about it. We ended up pulling a lot of it off of the belt just so there was room for our stuff to come out onto the belt.

Pretty poor service for the Gatwick passengers.

If the pilot was an Olympic gymnast he would have been deducted points for the bounce on landing
