Yeah, but how do you know that this is what is happening in Iraq?

Again, a genuine question. All I have to go on is press releases and news reports. I've never been to Iraq and have no real idea of what is actually happening there. Do you?
What do you mean? If you're asking if I've seen it with my own eyes, then of course not. I'm like everyone else going on news reports, social media etc. With 22 odd countries tossing their hats in, I'm reasonable sure what's "happening" there is quite grim. I've never seen the Marianas Trench or Neptune either, but I'm pretty certain they're there.

Most of this can be traced back to the toppling of Saddam and the blanket exclusion of Baathists from government positions.

Thats as simple an explanation as you will get.

you believe this? do you also believe in WMD's? the tooth fairy, santa??

The same people who told the world Sadam had WMD's are the same people telling you they only target terrorists, so if this is the case why are so many locals joining up with these terrorists??

the story just doesn't add up
No, with WMDs it was Blair and Bush telling us they were there. France and Germany even came out and said they didn't believe them. Now there's a huge coalition of forces willing to fight ISIS, which says to me they're real and a threat.

why are they a threat?? how did they get so big?? if you believe what we are being told then ISIS is huge, tens if not hundreds of thousands of well armed, trained men from many different countries, taking millions of acres of land across many countries, doesn't this sound slightly odd to you? how do they manage to recruit, train, feed, pay so many people to there cause??

now if some people thousands of miles away from me started bombing my family, village, country I'd be inclined to join up with people prepared to fight them with any means necessary, wouldn't you?

They're a threat to us in that they radicalise the young impressionable Muslim men so that they end up doing things like shooting up Charlie Hebdo. What's far more to the point is that they're a greater threat to the local population, and the world can't stand by and watch whilst they commit genocide.

What's there to question? Surely the number of refugees pouring out of Syria shows that this is real.

Re: Jordan to execute ISIS prisoners condemned to death, unless ...

you miss the point, I'm not saying they are not real, or they aren't bad people, what they are doing is no different to what's being done to them, the point being all the while 'we' try to impose 'our' will and rule in the middle east and underline it with heavy artillery these guys will have a ready supply of new recruits looking for some payback, as 'we' are not actually brave enough to do the dirty work ourselves, preferring to use nice clean drones and missiles then the 'bad guys' can only take it out on journalists, tourists and anyone else from the west etc they come across.

we created isis, but thats ok as petrol is getting cheaper

Re: Jordan to execute ISIS prisoners condemned to death, unless ...

What "we" did wrong was was getting rid of the zookeeper that was Saddam Hussein. The same applies for Gaddaffi. This has now allowed the animals to run riot. So in this regard "we" are responsible for what's happened there. But what ISIS are doing is a whole lot worse than what's been done to them.

The murdered pilot was a devout Sunni Muslim. Let's hope this kicks into action the surrounding Arab world to act.

Re: Jordan to execute ISIS prisoners condemned to death, unless ...

I can't really conceptualize ISIS as a victim worthy of some perverted sympathy.

Making enemies of Jordan and Japan for no reason is inane. But ISIS appears to be trying to get a full-on military build up in the region for some climactic showdown. It isn't working. Their actions are not getting the reactions they are trying to compel.

There is no compelling reason to commit ground troops. The bombings have had considerable effect on ISIS already. They've retreated from many places, and it halted their advance. The losses demonstrate to them that Allah may not be on their side afterall. I'm sure it impaccts their membership drive. The Kurds are happy about it, and I'm sure the Yazidis who have been rescued are grateful. So in the face of the sadism and the satanic religious cult ISIS represents, the response has been rightful, proportionate and effective.

I don't understand the need to canonise this man, he was a combatant fighting in a war zone and he got killed. His death was gruesome and completely contrary to the rules of war, but then again so is bombing and killing innocent civilians in areas for which you have almost no intelligence.

If you want a true hero then look no further than Alan Hennin, a selfless humanitarian who didn't go to Syria with guns or a reckless nose for a story, but went there transporting food and medicines to those most in need. This is why I said that if they could kill him, then I would presume anyone else they capture to already be a dead man.

The point is not to canonise this pilot, rather the fact it's a high profile Muslim that got offed in such a gruesome way. Up until now wealthy, Muslim countries like Saudi and Turkey have sat idly by whilst ISIS have run riot on their doorstep. Perhaps this will spur them into action to do something more meaningful. Though I highly doubt it.

Persians, Iranians.. my point is that they are not a belligerent people. The last major incursion into a neighbouring country was centuries ago during the Afsharid dynasty, when the Shah invaded Northern India.
