Chelsea fans in Paris Metro racist incident.

I find this absolutely appalling. A group of alleged/so called Chelsea football fans racially abuse a black guy trying to get on a Metro train and push him off when he tries to get on.

On the video they can clearly be heard chanting 'We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it'

I'm sure from the video that most of these thugs will be easily identified and I hope the book is thrown at them. I'm sure they'll be banned from football for a very long time at least but I hope they get sent back to Paris to face any criminal charges.

Article and video in the Guardian.

These are hardcore BNP card holders, with one foot still in the '70's - realistically, no one's going to intervene, if they don't want a kicking.
Unfortunately mob-rule ....... rules.

What are they supposed to do? What would you have done? Confront a group of likely drunk and violent morons? That always ends well...

I'm sure they'll be identified and dealt with, the loathsome shitheads.

Well someone did something, the English guy took a video of them and sent it the press. The only other thing that anyone could have done was to lead the black guy away. Confrontation here could have ended very badly.

There were only about 6 of them and about 30 people on the platform and another 200 on the train.

Would you have been the first to step forward and hope that the other 29 backed you up? That's the first thing I asked myself when I read the article. The guy with the camera did the best thing.

Re: Chelsea fans in Paris Metro racist incident.

It's examples like this that make me ashamed to be English. I say "English" specifically, as it never seems to be Scottish, Welsh or Irish fans being so moronic.

It's no wonder the rest of Europe dislikes "Brits Abroad", as this is their only reference point.

These thugs/louts/morons need taking down a darkened alleyway and having 7 shades kicked out of them. I know some people will say that violence doesn't condone violence, but these people know no other way of receiving a loud clear message. For sure, they would not do this if they were on their own on the train.

No, but maybe send some glances left and right and say "let's go in and do something, are you with me?".

Looking at the guys in the movie, none seem to be doing anything like that. It's more as if they're fully absorbed with gawping at what's going on as if its some form of entertainment.

Obviosuly being able to flog some shaky footage to the Guardian is more important than helping a poor sod who'se obviously living a very unpleasant and potentially dangerous moment. That says so much about what our society has come to.

The black woman in the last shot appears to be staff member of security staff. So I guess at least somebody had the sense of mind to call them.

I'm actually surprised at the black guys persistence to get in that compartment - his journey wouldn't have exactly been comfortable, even if he had succeeded.

It's good to make a stand against prejudice, but sometimes you just have to be plain sensible, and walk away.

Rationally yes, but its understandable. The guy ran to catch the train. All other doors were already shut so he ran to reach the one that was still open. Sudden bursts of exercise tend to raise one's adrenaline levels and thus the likelihood that you stand your ground and fight back. And then if somebody pushes you, you don't immedaitely think "hey, why did he push me" but you try and rectify the situation which in this case involved trying to get onto the train.

Lol, the Irish and the Scots just kick shit out of people based on sectarian bigotry. I guess that must be ok though.

Football hooligans kick the shit out of people for wearing the wrong colours.

Back in the middle ages, that was what football was about. Then some fools came along and decided to delegate the kicking the ball bit to eleven sickeningly overpayed experts, meaning the others could continue kicking the shit out of one another without even having to pretend it was about the ball or scoring goals or anything.

It's time to re-democraticise football and give the ball back to the people.

I would not be so critical.. there are bad apples in every country.. When watching British football, I myself admire how civilized the general crowd is... there are no fences between the pitch and the fans and even amateur matches get a lot of support

I wonder how this scene would have been if it had taken place in let's say New York City or Atlanta. Kudos to the victim for staying calm!

Exactly. The outrage over this isolated incident shows how far English football has come since the 70s and 80s when the bananas were thrown onto the pitch. You could even argue that the Hillsborough tragedy was indirectly a result of the way football fans used to behave i.e. they behaved like animals, so at football grounds were caged like animals.

The way racism is dealt with in Football in England is really an example the rest of the world could follow. It's by no means perfect but it is leading the way.

Meanwhile Sepp Blatter has tweeted his condemnation of what happened whilst handing the World Cup over to two countries where casual racism is the norm.

Crikey, way to blame 500m people by the actions of 10 BNP scumbags.

That's like saying the whole of the USA is stuck in the 1780s because some gun nut shoots up a school.

Yeah, you clearly aren't familiar with what happened at Hillsborough. I wouldn't use that as justification, seeing as how the police were to blame.

I cant see any reason to bring Hillsborough into this. can you explain?
