Ryan Air record profits

Ryan Air has just reported that their profits for the last financial year are UP by 66%.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-32880096

It must be all the backhanders they get from taxi and shuttle operators, who have to ferry passengers from 'destination' airport to the actual destination; from small luggage manufacturers and cardboard sandwich producers.

However, one really can't knock private enterprise, that still offers the punter a reasonable deal, in a time and industry, where others are struggling.

People may moan, but they still come back, and it appears, more so.

Re: Ryan Air record profits

Ryanair is amazing for what they offer.

I prefer to pay 30% of what it would cost and go through their crap for 3 hours rather than overpay other shitty airlines and get pretty much the same. It's now the norm to pay for your luggage for big airlines too, screw that. Food is crap as well.

I prefer to have all these deducted and keep my money. Of course my upper limit with a RA flight is 3 hours, wouldn't even think of choosing them for a longer trip.

Re: Ryan Air record profits

Fuel prices may have something to do with it, rather than strategy:

United Announces Record First-Quarter Profit

EasyJet has delivered a record performance in the first half of the year by continuing to deliver its strategy of making travel easy and affordable for passengers.

American Airlines Group Reports Record First Quarter 2015 Profit

The Emirates Group ...the financial year ending 31 March 2015 saw the Group achieve its 27th consecutive year of profit, despite numerous external challenges.

Even BA (IAG Group made money).

Willie Walsh, IAG Chief Executive Officer, said:
“IAG made an operating profit of €25 million compared to a €150 million operating loss last year. This is IAG’s first ever quarter 1 operating profit in what is traditionally the weakest quarter of the year. There was a strong improvement both at a Group level and with all three airlines.

Etc, etc, etc

Re: Ryan Air record profits

Falling fuel prices was given as the main contributory factor - along with increase in passengers carried.

....... but never let accuracy get in the way of good sensationalist speculation.

Re: Ryan Air record profits

Actually fuel prices have been hedged by most airlines for 2-3 years in advance so the real profits will kick in next year if the prices stay low.

Most of them have actually been screwed by locking prices near 100$ a barrel for the next year.

Re: Ryan Air record profits

Here are some of Micheal O'leary's (Ryanair CEO) more attention grabbing, money saving stunts. He is certainly a colourful character, and when all goes well, such visible 'extreme budget consciousness' does not appear to do the airline any harm:

Passengers/stewards replacing pilots: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/ar...ergencies.html

It's an amazing business concept. That one can't deny.

I don't like the guy and I won't fly with them.

I know he won't shed a single tear.

And I'm fine with that.

Do you realize that pilots are actually volunteering to work for airlines for free, or even paying the airline in some cases, to log training hours?

Re: Ryan Air record profits

30 years ago we were ripped off by all the airlines. Cheap fares only existed when you bought a ticket 6 weeks ahead, or found a seat on a charter flight (Refunds were also unheard of on "cheap" tickets), and European flights were seldom under Fr 400 for a return ticket.

If Ryan Air and EasyJet can make good profits, order new planes, and still give me bucket shop prices, I am very pleased for them.

Thats right... Ryan Air hires pilots with very LOW flying hours.. (300 - 400 Total Time) and makes them pay for their training. Knowing that they want to build up hours to find a better job they pay them very little so at the end they are paying Ryan Air to fly....

Had a really bad experience with them once- and I'd much rather fly with EasyJet- much better service and similar prices. However, friends from the UK who live or have property/family in South West France have no choice, as RyanAir is the only company that serves that area.

Ouch- the idea of RyanAir using pilots with very little experience is worrysome really. Many experienced Swissair pilots had to take huge cuts in salary when the Company was closed down - or be jobless.
