Re: Donald Trump and Co

Well I for one can't understand how he won the nomination. Especially after all those liberal entertainers and comedians made so many jokes about him.

I really dislike Cruz, but hats off to him for this venomous parting shot yesterday.

Quote:
(CNN)Ted Cruz on Tuesday unloaded on Donald Trump, accusing him during a news conference of being a "pathological liar," "utterly amoral," "a narcissist at a level I don't think this country's ever seen" and "a serial philanderer."

"He is proud of being a serial philanderer ... he describes his own battles with venereal diseases as his own personal Vietnam," Cruz said, citing a decades-old Trump appearance on "The Howard Stern Show."

Gracious in defeat

How is the GOP ever going to pull itself together to fight the Presidential election in November

Still if you look at the Tea Party or those who think the Bible is a scientific text book then anything is possible.

He is more unpredictable. He talks about the big picture but is more evasive when it comes to details so we don't really know what he would be like as a president. We probably won't really know until he's actually in office. So basically Trump is asking people to trust him and they'll see.

We have seen Hillary in political office and we know she's calculating, nasty and spiteful. But we also know the extent and limits to her nastiness.

So there is a choice between somebody we know to be evil and somebody who might in fact be crazier still but on the other hand might be far better.

Re: Donald Trump and Co

My Issues with Trump are that he incites hatred and violence, you can't run a government like a business and his knowledge is scant. His advisors aren't too sharp either.

Clinton is too hawkish for my taste. But truth be told, although I distrust the Democratic apparatus, I distrust it less than the bullshit that Trump spews out.

But that's my opinion.

The primary phase of an election is all about setting yourself apart from your opponents, and you can't really do that without criticising them. Maybe Trump has been more excessive in his choice of words but if you factor out the hyperbole I don't think that the core of what he's saying is genuinely worse than what the others have said.

The Dems who are now shedding tears for Cruz are either fooling themselves or have not understood.

In the general election phase its more about building unity and reaching out to the middle ground and swing voters so I'm expecting Trump to change his tone somewhat.

Re: Donald Trump and Co

I seriously considered giving up my blue passport when GWB was in office. I am happy to have hung on (and filled those damn IRS forms) so that I could proudly vote in 2008. Now, I'll be forced to vote against the Donald. If he's elected, more soul-wrenching about whether to hand in the blue passport.

The US will now go the route of European democracies: vote against the right-wing candidate without caring about his opponent. How does democracy fail...?

Re: Donald Trump and Co

I can't find the video, but Jerry Springer made some great points on CNN last night. In case you have no idea who he is, he's a former mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio and is famous (in the U.S.) for an outrageous talk show.

In a nutshell, he says it's no surprise that Trump has won the nomination for the Rs. For years and years both sides of the aisle and the media have been telling voters that Washington is corrupt, the government can't be trusted, the system is broken, we need change, etc. It was only a matter of time before a TV celebrity gained traction against the so-called establishment.

IMO the Rs now need to be concerned about down-ballot races for senate, house, and state-level offices. Some voters will still vote Trump, some will switch to Clinton, and some will just stay home. It is very, very rare for voters to turn out for a presidential election and only vote down-ballot races.

Hmm, I wonder if the Senate is going to take another look at Merrick Garland. He might not be super conservative, but he's more conservative than any choice for the SCOTUS Hilary would nominate...
