That could cover people who've put a few rappen in a tin to people who've written to aid agencies offering their own homes. Can you narrow it down a bit? Perhaps explaining why you want people to get in touch with you?

You can go in person to a refugee centre here in CH and meet people, or you can ask Caritas. They can point you in the right direction. Every place has its own share of people down on their luck who can use some help.

I was at the gemeinde haus just last week and they sent me to the sozialdienst counter. I explained to the lady at the counter I wanted to volunteer with helping the refugees and donate some stuff. She told me to get in touch with Caritas and also took my contact details in case. So I would also suggest getting in touch with your local caritas and/or sozialdienst.

Re: Refugee crisis - child sponsorship

I worked for a year as an child sponsorship administrator for an NGO. Although there are some really amazing NGO's who use child sponsorship as a model, it can be a very inefficient and inadequate way to get support to those who need it most.

Whilst the 'cost of doing things' may seem really high, there is no doubt that the big organisations - unicef, red cross/red crescent/world vision/caritas have the structures in place to deliver large mobilisations and meet a lot of needs.

Finding grass-roots organisations that match your ethical standards and are not corrupt or self-serving, can be difficult...but if you want the money to go furthest, those messy grass roots organisations often do the most with the least money (and probably the least accountability or infrastructure)...
