This lady has sued NYPD for an unspecified amount in damages based on a police officer's arrest that resulted in eight hellish days at Harlem psych ward. She claims the police officer who stopped her didn't believe the car she was driving (a BMW) was hers.
She was stripped naked, sedated, put on Lithium and repeatedly persuaded to confess she was not the owner of her car. The hospital argues that she was acting delusional, based among others on her claim that she worked at a bank (she was) and that Obama was following her on Twitter (which he was).
Frankly, we aren't getting the entirety of the story. There also is no statement from NYPD or Harlem psych ward and that can be interpreted in different ways.
But irrespective of how 'erratic' she was supposedly acting, the claims could have been easily verified and she could have been spared the anguish. The response by police and those tasked to care for her appear completely disproportionate and racism seems to have been a contributing factor to that reaction. We have a long way to go to eliminate discrimination... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-10498704.html
