Good. I don't think wearing the Burqa is a matter of freedom of choice, rather the flaunting of misogyny and a lack of freedom of choice.

Not much then for the men who insist their wives and daughters wear it when they go out. They just won't be allowed out at all.

They should pass law to fine/arrest the husband if he prevents his wife from leaving the home.

The actual fine is CHF 100, NOT CHF 10000.

(min is CHF 100, max is CHF 10000, but even the minimum fine is optional)

Charles Bukowski has no particular reputation at present
Re: Women wearing a burqa will be fined £6,500 in Switzerland

An academic report from the University of Copenhagen's Department of Cross-Cultural and Religious Studies (ToRS) found that half of the burka wearers were actually european converts. I think this makes it clear that in modern Europe the burka is not necessarily an atavistic hangover, but is in many cases a voluntary gesture of disaffection from and rejection of "western" society.

Also, I'd like to point out that only a tiny fraction of the female muslim population actually wear burqa, even in countries like France or Sweden, that received a massive wave of immigrants from places where burqa is actually used (Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia). Now, considering that Ticino has a comparatively insignificant muslim population in absolute numerical terms, and that most of the Ticinese muslims hail from places like Bosnia, Turkey, Kosovo or Albania, which are overall secularized and where burqa is not used, my conclusion is that this referendum is a complete waste of money and time. Even the security reason doesn't hold, considering that the bill doesn't provide for sanctions against hiding the face in public places in general.

I'm sure your local bank will convert the money so it doesn't particularly matter. I think it was a British news story that was quoted.

For there to have been a vote on it there must have been an epidemic of people walking around with their faces covered - would never happen in Basel!

So 50% not.

Or to put it another way, a voluntary acceptance and promotion of a misogynistic way of life. Doesn't really make it better in my view.

Being forced by a husband or a mullah is already a crime under Swiss law.

So the husband/father/brother wants to enforce "must"
Now the state wants to enforce "must not".

Do explain how this improves the life of the person actually affected most by this, the woman who is caught between patriarchy and statism.

Instead spend some money educating women trapped in such situations about their rights under Swiss law.

Whether you like it or not for many women it is their choice to wear the Burqa. Of course many are also forced to wear it or peer pressured into wearing it

This 100%, fully agree even though I find the Burqa misogynistic and a vile item of clothing,
