Coming from someone "affiliated" with a group that calls itself "Overweight Haters Ltd"? I would say it definitely is.
Now, had it come from "Love your body and lose weight Ltd" would have been a different thing. Still a bit judgmental, though.

Context is everything.
Too true!

As for context, this allegedly happened on the tube in Greater London. If it had happened where I come from, the card giver would likely have found themselves on the receiving end of a 'Wigan kiss' (flying headbutt with a decent run up ). It would have been a whole different story!

Unfortunately, being a total numpty is usually invisible until said numpty opens their trap.

Wild world out there...then I suppose all the products aimed for losing weight, getting fitter etc etc and their unfortunate promoters would benefit from the same treatment? I don't believe people are so sensitive, in general. Most would probably shrug it off and laugh. Lots of do good campaigns could be considered offensive or patronising. Anti-smoking was already mentioned, churches that want to save your soul come second to my mind...
Btw., a few years ago I got a leaflet promoting a vegan lifestyle, under the motto "Evolve" or something like that (with the ads for vegan products printed discreetly on back), which was implying that those who are not vegans are not yet "evolved"...what do you think people should have done? Smack the chap(ess)?

Haha! I had one of those yesterday in Erlenbach. I told her (in German) that I don't speak German. Mistake! She carried on in English... I had to say...
"Look luv, good luck to youand all that, but I don't do religion. Tara!"

Thankfully, that confused her enough for me to make a swift escape.

I'd say it's incredibly rude.

I've been veggie (not vegan) for 35yrs and only my closest friends and family even know. I don't wear it like some badge of honour because it's my choice and was a private decision, and I certainly don't pontificate on the health benefits, animal rights, etc... because it's boring! Yet total strangers in the street feel free to lecture me for smoking or drinking?!!!

My other half's mother is Greek. I have earned the right to never be nagged by anyone else, ever again in this lifetime!!!

We all make our own lifestyle choices, but I firmly believe only our nearest and dearest, and our doctors, have the right to comment.

Over the last 4yrs that my other half lived in the U.K., he commented quite a bit the it's increasingly becoming a nanny state. I didn't agree until the law came in that cigarettes have to kept behind screens in shops. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Hiding them is removing the advertising element from impressionable children and teenagers.

It isn't really for the benefit of the grown-ups.

I agree with you, I also believe very few people have the right to comment or lecture us about our life choices. Yet, a lot of others (btw, I was reeeally rude only one time to a Jehovah's witness preacher and frankly it didn't really feel as liberating as I thought) think they have the right to lecture us, save us, or save the world.
If they don't expose a very obvious hate and their total and utter contempt towards the "non-believers" or those who are not like them I think they are kind of "benign". Patronising, rude or whatever but something that I can easily ignore or laugh it off.
