Hillary and Co

Could a non-American explain to an American the attraction for someone like Hillary Clinton?

American Politics is often about picking who you hate less

(And yes, many do seem to be voting for her because of her gender alone. :S)

Yes! Am afraid you are correct. It's going to be a vote on who you don't want.

Maybe you should vote for someone that can change the system, and not have only rich "lucky" people to choose from?

Personally I think Obama has served the USA very well, but then half of you consider him a communist.

No!

I feel bloody sorry for Americans having to choose between these two.

Right from the get go, one of my mates (a college professor in one of the northern states) predicted that, if it comes down to Clinton vs Trump, whoever wins has 6mths to live because of the utter contempt felt towards both candidates by huge swathes of America.

Personally, I'd never vote for a top job candidate with zero political career to back him up. I'd also fight shy of voting for a candidate who perpetuates the dynastical trend in American politics. I've only seen one exception to this, which is Justin Trudeau, but Canada's a whole different ball game.

And not forgetting Michelle. I think she's been a fantastic First Lady and is one hell of a woman. She's the first one to be subject to full on media scrutiny in the internet age, and has played it flawlessly.

One should give Hillary credit. She is definitely one intelligent woman, who growing up middle class, knows what its like to work hard and I assume now knows that email should be taken seriously.

Where as Donald is one who has everything dealing with his daily life done for him. He never has to drive, prepare his meals, wash his clothes, prepare a tax return, etc.. I am certain he doesn't even know where the tabs should go in the DW.

Re: Hillary and Co

Of the two evils, Hillary is definitely the lesser one! Come to think of it why would anyone pick a hateful, lying, misguiding, resentful, manipulative, cunning demagogue? His businesses haven't succeeded like he heralded, his university was a fraud and awaits judicial action. Most of his claims are just blatant lies!

To an outsider like me it seems a pretty easy choice: Hillary. Of course she is no saint but not dangerous like Trump either!

But then, that's me... an outsider!

I absolutely give Clinton credit where it's due, but we cannot escape that her reputation is tarnished and her husband's recent performances have made him a liability.

My fear is that what she has achieved in political office will be massively overshadowed by her failures and used against her at every turn by someone who has zero political experience, zero credibility and zero future as Commander In Chief for the next 10yrs.

This campaign is going to be political career vs personality and business career. We haven't seen that before so the outcome is a complete wild card. I always judge a candidate by their voting record in political office. It's that single factor that destroyed Nick Clegg's chances of re-election in the UK.

What chance do the American public have of making an informed decision when one candidate has their voting record there in black and white an the other is based upon heresay, speculation and rumour?

Very well said, and when you put it like that, both candidates could be facing judicial action.

Is that really what America's come to?

I used to say it about GWB, but now it applies again...
Out of a population of 953 million, it that really the best you can offer your electorate?

I'm wondering how many Americans are thinking "I'll vote Trump, what's the worst that could happen?"

GWB was quite stupid and look what he gave the world.. A War in Iraq and Af that gave rise to ISIS. Now imagine what DT is capable of with all his manipulation and deceit and the US defense force under his command. Least Hillary could do is fall back on her husband again for advice! That's still OK...

Re: Hillary and Co

I am going to vote for the third option (Sanders) because I refuse to give in to "voting for the lesser of two evils".

I fully understand the concept of "throwing away my vote", or "a vote for Sanders is a vote for Trump", but dammit, I finally see someone running who I think might actually do some good, and that´s where my vote is going. Many of my friends feel the same way, so I can only hope that this will work out for the best.

If not, it will be quite the circus

Re: Hillary and Co

Good on ya DantesDame!

I've only voted tactically once in my life, for Labour in '97. Just wish more people would vote true to their core beliefs. Sanders would have my vote every day of the week purely based upon his career and voting record.
