Well - rhetorical question. If you have a bad choice and another bad choice, how do you define the one you pick. Bad?

I agree with you, hope motivated. But, I think no credit where no ctedit is due: people picked their instant gratification and entertainment.
hence the power of populism

once the nominations cleared, it was already a lost cause. no point in discussing which one is worse.

Can't believe I'm writing this but apparently that's a hoax. Dickhead as he is and given the amount of manure that comes out of his gob, this was one they can't find evidence for.

What a bunch of garbage with new LOWS:

"how I am going to explain Trump's victory to my innocent, confused children".

Including children now... Like they care...

Here's an advice, skip the explanation part and jump from the window*.
Thanks in advance.

*from 1st or 2nd floor, i'm not that bad... especially it would hurt innocent children, despite their parent's obvious stupidity

Can you point out what the immoral behaviour was on the part of Trump and his supporters?
Melania posed nude in her past; many people would describe that as "immoral behaviour".

Maybe immoral is not the correct word, substitute it with offensive/xenophobic/misogynistic/homophobic where appropriate.

Re: Will Trump be the next US President?

In the end, what I saw were a lot of Conservative supporters essentially saying:
Trump says mean things, he says un-PC things, therefore he is a bigot, racist, and sexist!
Hilary deleted emails? So what they're just emails.

Comments like these don't really distinguish them from the hardcore 'redneck' republican supporters.

In the end it was a 'democracy' decided by a few million uninformed, biased individuals--and the majority has spoken.

I am surprised at the outcome, but not at all upset, or outraged.

As for messaging, Donald had 1 single point and stuck with it. Hillary had hundreds of explanations and excuses. His single point resonated more than her numerous obfuscations. Who's smarter?
never said anything on his supporters.

I have found his tax strategies, speech on women and attacks on immigrants immoral.

He made a populist point but no roadmap.obviously, people are not interested in the roadmap,so his was a smart move.

Frankly, I am happy he won over Hillary as I did not like her roadmap on Syria and middle east.

Would have been happier, if there were other nominations, thats all.

The message of Trump being a racist and a right-wing fascist is only a left-wing campaign construct. It was merely amplified by virtue-signalling on all and any soundbite they could muster up. Apparently its still resonating in people's ears. This has yet to be proven. But the angle they miss is that Trump is a meritocrat. In his world, merit trumps race. So if he can truly stimulate meritocracy in America, it will debunk the leftist reactionary construct. Of course they will work hard to try to prevent this, as they need to perpetuate a classist and racist construct for their marxist inspired ideals.

You forgot the main word - outrage.
entire families, blacks, hispanics, Muslims - good solid Americans who have contributed so much to the USA - who woke up terrified of the future (where the emoticon with tears here) - 1000x times more than all my middle class well educated white friends- who have all been e-mailing and FBing about how to get out of the USA asap- and who have the money and the choice.

Personally I feel bereft, so does DH- totally. We've been through the vote on limiting immigration in CH in 2014 and the mess which ensued and still is, we've had the Brexit saga and the mess which ensued and still is- and now we wake up afraid of yet another monster with his finger on the nuclear button, joining Putin and Kim

Time to empty all the beers and wine and stok up that nuclear bunker perhaps

Okay, but in perspective, tax avoidance is common practice by ALL, and the speech, while insensitive and offensive to some, was not criminal, but mostly juvenile barbs and humour.

I think the big story of this election was the rise of the right-wing on the Internet, and the fall of the mass media. For both of Obama's victories he was the champion on the Internet by default and I think it was the difference for him and his campaign, compared to the stale-old campaigns of McCain and Romney. The right finally grew up enough to understand how the Intertubes work and now we have a different environment in social media et al.

Trump won and he spent 1/3rd of what Hilary did on media advertisement buys. It's actually quite impressive to see that Trump has had a significant negative impact on the revenue forecasts for media companies:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...ding/93435504/

The media is _really_ dependent on the big election spending, so for them to have such a contentious election and lose money in the process is a big deal for the future. This election, and Brexit, (and the elections that will happen in Europe in the coming years) are strongly demonstrating (or will demonstrate) that the media's ability to act as gatekeepers to control the flow of information are gone.
This thread is so good. Sod's law, I have to go into a meeting.

The hysterics over two bad choices is something that insiders might understand better than outsiders, I think they can forsee the direct and immediate consequences better. I don't think stuff that is happening outside of the US territory actually has so much impact on the majority of the US voters. I think it explains the Trump's triumph, as well.
