Re: Will Trump be the next US President?

Ok so what I really don't understand is this:

I get why the filthy rich Republicans voted Republican, if only on principles. That's to be expected.

I get why the ultra conservative states voted Republican. They would probably rather vote for Putin as a next president than ever elect a woman.

But how in eff's name did very democratic states suddenly change direction and became republican? How in eff's name was it possible that out of seemingly nowhere, some arrogant, racist, misogynist multi-millionaire with daddy's money was able to convince the majority of the "average workers" that he knew what was best for them, all the while having no idea whatsoever about the life of such an average worker?

It is beyond me, seriously. And I'm really trying to understand.

The hysterics over two bad choices is somethinh that insiders might understand better than outsiders, I think they can forsee the direct and immediate consequences better. I don't think stuff that is happening outside of the US territory actually has so much impact on the majority of the US voters. I think it explains the Trump's triumph, as well.
I think your wrong. Trump stumped on the mistakes of going to war. Between he and Hillary, he was the anti-war candidate. He repudiated his own party's warmongering stance. But I take it you did not understand that.

This admission yours, rather than claiming to be smarter than the Americans, yet be wrong about it, is the beginning of understanding it. Drop the other pretences, and you may eventually understand.

entire families, blacks, hispanics, Muslims - good solid Americans who have contributed so much to the USA - who woke up terrified of the future (where the emoticon with tears here) - 1000x times more than all my middle class well educated white friends- who have all been e-mailing and FBing about how to get out of the USA asap- and who have the money and the choice.

Personally I feel bereft, so does DH- totally. We've been through the vote on limiting immigration in CH in 2014 and the mess which ensued and still is, we've had the Brexit saga and the mess which ensued and still is- and now we wake up afraid of yet another monster with his finger on the nuclear button, joining Putin and Kim

Time to empty all the beers and wine and stok up that nuclear bunker perhaps
I know. Stuff it with home made jams and pickled mushrooms, instead. Our bunker is filled with somebody's furniture.

The general climate of intolerance might get worse for a while. But it may have been even worse with Clinton, tbh, in the current post ellection environment.

Seems his stance flapped like a flag depending on who was interviewing him, though.

There are quotes going in all directions on his opinion.

Granted, they're not children anymore and it's unlikely they are innocent, but they're probably a tad confused too, yes.

You mean someone other than himself commented on what he said, and you would rather believe the others. Let me guess, CNN?

No, direct quotes by Trump himself.
I think he clearly resonated with voters that the US needs to start taking care of its own people instead of other interests elsewhere, and this includes going into unnecessary wars for other people.

Seriously, Trump has an opportunity to take the US off of a war footing. We all really ought to hope he succeeds.

Are you going to volunteer then to fix up the conflicts that other US leaders already fed into?

Nope. No need to comment on Trump's quotes. His endless flip-flopping on more or less everything is a matter of public record:

Trump basically said all things to all people to win votes. So did Hillary but Trump's wild promises and claims were probably a step too far for anyone not psychologically imbalanced enough to either match or beat his rhetoric.

So now only the young are allowed to vote?? What maximum age should we apply??

Maybe we should only allow people with a degree to vote too - and only those with white skin? And a net worth >1m USD?

Kind of. There were two parallel debates going on. The "smart" people didn't hear one of the debates at all. Trump tapped into the disenfranchisement which has been building for the 30 years that Clinton was seen to have been paying lip service to.
Can't resist the pun

Pretty unedifying gloating Phos, even Trump managed a few gracious words towards his opponent and her supporters.
Unfortunately, there's not much point trying to reason with an arrogant, condescending American living in his ivory tower in Europe (yet casting stones at his hosts), Castro.
