At the end of the day, America will get the president it deserves.

All this fear mongering about what will happen if Trump gets in is exactly that. Nothing will happen, nothing will change. All that will occur is that the most powerful country in the world will be headed by a cantankerous imbecile. The wheels of the US political system will grind into action and prevent him from doing anything and he'll likely be impeached within two years.

The lolz if he does win will be spectacular though.
I disagree. If anything, the problem with this election is that America as a nation is not going to get the president which it deserves or requires.

The politicians may well be getting the president that they deserve or require, but that is a different matter.

And the 1 million her foundation took from Qatar. A vote for Clinton is simply a vote for more of the same. There's an agenda for the Middle East.
I doubt it. A vote for Hillary is a vote for more extreme of the same. At least Obama had a reputation to protect.

At least Obama tried to do it behind everybody's back, and tried to persuade everyone they aren't being screwed. Whereas Hillary will likely screech and laugh as she does it. The woman even looks like a Halloween witch.

What if...just what if... neither Trump or Hillary passes the security clearance requirements required for the office?
This is a good question. My legal answer is that the Constitution trumps statute (no pun intended), so the President-elect gets her/his unfettered access to all intel regardless of if s/he can pass some statutory requirement or not.

My political answer is that anything short of the above is a coup.

If the President-elect is so dangerous to national security, then they should be impeached upon taking office. Let the games begin!

Being impeached didn't stop Slick Willy, however.

Tom
Clinton had one and a half terms to do what he wanted before he was impeached. His second term ended in January 2001 and he was impeached on 19 December 1998.

Incidentally, his approval rating amongst the American public hit an all-time high (73%) two days after his impeachment.

Re: Will Trump be the next US President?

Decided to leave town for a couple of days and went to a remote location away from the politicos, but we are surrounded by redneck Trump/Pence signs...oh well. At least, they have good cajun food here in the swampland and we can talk in funny French (theirs, not mine) about zydeco music and andouille.

In a normal year, we'd throw an election get-together with lots of delicious food, friends from both political parties, alcohol and interesting discussions, but this year we are so over the whole thing. We won't be tuning in or watching the news until Wednesday morning, at which point we'll deal with whatever we got and move on with our lives.

Off to stuff my face with beignets. Cheers!

For some reason, I'm not so sure Nov. 8 will be the end of it all. It might even be the beginning of something even uglier. I think the smart money is already planning to move to New Zealand.

A choice between a troll and a witch, or an asshole and a criminal, its already cynical any which way. I won't be holding my breath.

The same with much of North American politics---you seldom hear about those who are happy and content with a situation, but no matter what happens--you'll be sure to hear from those opposed!
And media doesn't really cover (or at least make good money covering), those who are content and happy---but the otherside---that will sell some headlines and get a ton of clicks and shares!

On balance, though, the media hasn't helped and seems to have sucked everyone into the whirlwind of scandal just to shift copy and sell advertising space.

Like with the Brexit fiasco, everyone has been instructed to concentrate on how pervy Trump is and how many emails Clinton has managed to lose. Not many outlets have bothered with the mundane and pedestrian matters of actual bread and butter policy.

Not that I'm defending either of them (Christ, I'd rather stab myself in the eye). Let's just say, after Brexit, it's highlighted that we're in a new dawn of media super-manipulation.

Re: Will Trump be the next US President?

Mainstream media has lost its credibility. Now it just needs to start losing its revenue. NYT, WashPost, and CNN have relegated themselves to trash tabloid status. If anyone, Wikileaks stands out as the only thing left lately resembling journalism.

And so let it all be self-selecting; bees to honey and flies to shit.

Re: Will Trump be the next US President?

Give or take EF reckons there is a 40% chance of Trump being president.

Now I would hazard a guess and say your average EF user is more intelligent and more aware of global issues than your average Kentuckian (although I have nothing against Burt Lancaster).

As the old UK advert said:

You see, this only really states the the average EF user is oblivious and ignorant of the average Kentuckian.

I have a theory that it is a rule of human nature that bigotry is acceptable as long as it is directed at the right groups. As it is a rule of human nature, this applies at at all times in human history, even (or especially) now during this era of pat-ourselves-on-the-back tolerance.
