Re: Burkinis banned at some French beaches

A year ago, hot hot summer here, we went for hiking n swimming in the river....after finish , on the way we walk to our car, we saw a woman with her man, he wear short sleeves top n short, and she wear... All black, even cannot see her eyes..all covered! It was 35 degree?

In this moment, I want to yell to this guy, hey dude, are you crazy????? You can feel the heat and she don't?

But... I don't.... Not because I scare to voice out, but I remember, respect others culture..even so we disagree, but surely none of our business

Actually it is apply to everything, they has the right to wear what they want, and also France has their right to set their law...

No?

Sort of. Everyone, and each state has a right to act, dress, and believe as they wish, insofar as that does not impede some other person or state's right to do the same.

What they do not have a right to is uncritical acceptance.

In general, where you find a state, or a person, incapable of tolerating criticism, you will find more problems.

Adjust... to what extent?

And this from an expat in Switzerland- I wonder how fluent you are with the language where you live, if you go to the local Church and pay your Church taxes- can you ski, yoddle and shoot?
I can get by in 3 of the 4 National languages, don't go to church but pay church taxes, and I can shoot. How am I doing Odile?

No, blind tolerance has led to the situation we have today. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression are far more important.

Well, you must see, there is always wall to break through, someone must change their idea, and the world can be better place... Right?

But the fact is, they are who they are... Sad but truth. Circle still on, so create hate and anger

Anyone can shoot. Hitting the target is the crux of the matter.

The weather is lovely, why don't you* just go out and enjoy the sunshine instead of being miserable feckers on this forum. Get a life, get over it.
Thanks Tobias. Just got in from my swim in Zurichsee and did a massive fart whilst I was there, that may or may not have sent a slight tidal wave down the Limmat.

You're just trying to complicate matters now. My target is whatever I happen to hit.

So when you shoot you don't actually need a gun? Theoretically you could just stand somewhere and drop lumps of lead.

I am an idealist, insofar as I think the idea of healthy criticism is worthy of active participation.

I am a pessimist, insofar as I suspect that my idealism makes me unpopular for all the wrong reasons.

I am a pragmatist, insofar as I understand that labels are just words, in a world where it is sometimes actions which make a big difference, and sometimes words.

I know I cannot move the mountain, I buy the hammer to make my way through piece by piece (and use my baseball bat)

You picked a bloody odd place to emigrate to! Saskatchewan would have made your life a LOT simpler.

Re: Burkinis banned at some French beaches

Well the ban has been suspended in the French courts, in Villeneuve-Loubet
at least. Common sense prevails. Should never be the role of the state to tell you what you can and can't wear.

It will set a valid and pretty-much binding precedent for everywhere in France; it was the highest admistrative court that ruled this.

it's an excellent picture- but I have to say I don't find it 'amusing' - somehow.

Reminds me of the old adage 'ni pute, ni soumise' (neither a whore nor submissive)

The ban was lifted in Villeneuve-Loubet. But the other 29 or so towns say they will keep the ban in place. They would have to take each town to court. But the ban is only until stipulated until the 31st, next Wednesday, in most places.

And then Sarkozy is saying he will go for a national ban anyway.

What a dumb battle to fight, but I suppose this is really all about taking wind from Le Pen's sails. A political stunt by fools. Somewhat hard to respect.
