Not looking like such a crazy idea now, are they?

I think they are an awesome idea. I'd start building one today!

I think they are less needed than with Hillary, which for sure would have further pushed Obamas up-armend, deployment of troops and weapons in Europe:

Not sure guns will save you from twattish dictators playing at nuclear buttons - mind you, I don't think a nuclear bunker would either

Alcohol and cigarettes = safest currencies in times of crisis.

Re: Nuclear bunkers in Swiss houses

It's funny but I had this thought last night lying in my bed...

" What happens if the sirens go off now 4.30 am... 5 mins go past I'm thinking it's a test, 10 mins the family is up and then what do we do... 20 mins still blaring? Get some food in the kitchen and head for our bunker? Large flash of light outside, we still got time to get in the bunker and close it I am guessing?

But then what? I have no idea how the air filter works, we forgot the loo roll and we can't get wifi with the door closed... "

Eventually I got back to sleep, but this post just reminded me

Yes I agree, amidst all the joking there is a serious side to this - we also cannot get wifi in there, even when we put a signal booster just outside.

That's a serious issue here!!
Without Internet, how Odile will post in EnglishForum to say "I told you so" (consequences of Mr Trump, president of the USA).

No seriously, I'd rather face extinction by nuclear radiations that the perspective of being locked up in a bunker with my neighboors.

Or to suffocate in a tight space filled with basement junks that people are stashing there instead of properly disposing of it or giving it away

Re: Nuclear bunkers in Swiss houses

If you think about it there are some amusing side to that possible outcome, like:

Who's going to have priority now in the public shelters, the migrants or the locals who need to have protection from the nuclear disaster?

How's going to be this allegedely "friendly and welcoming relationship" when (if) there will be limited public shelter storage?

Will it be some kind of priority system for the richs and famous locals vs the "expats" vs the "migrants"?

Where will be the public services like "law enforcement" if such event would occur? will they still protect the masses or a selected part of the population?

etc...

Interesting times, isn't it?

I hate to ruin your sleep for tomorrow, but if the flash is near enough for you to see it, then it could be a week or more before wifi would be a remote possibility. You want a multiband radio.

On a serious note, did you check the validity date of your IODINE pills?

I guess it's time to go collect new ones now, to avoid the queues.

Is this a serious question?

If this is a serious question, here's a general answer:

No one has priority because everybody has their assigned place somewhere. If you don't have a bunker in your own place, the builder of your house/apartment block paid a fee to permanently buy a place in the public bunkers - usually located under public buildings such as schools. The way the law is done, you usually have to buy more places than the number of people that actually live in those apartments, so there might actually be more spaces than people occupying it (for example: if the living room is over 50m2, you must buy 2 spaces because it can be used for 2 people to sleep in it. Funny side to this: when needing to prove you have enough space to have a family member moving in, the living room can't count as a sleeping room).

You can get rid of the necessity to build a bunker in your terrain in some Kantons, but only buy providing the funds to buy a place in a public one.

This is, though, for people with permanent addresses. What happens to people sheltered in temporary shelters, that I have no idea.

Thanks.
Say it was a serious consideration on "funny times".

So yes, these were serious concerns which would have to be answered.
Preferably by the one a little bit too "pc" to face reality.

It's interesting what you say, never heard about that in my current flat, and don't see we have any shelter remotely anywhere. Plus with the commune expension in last few years (+ 1500 people minimum) I doubt they adapted the alleged official shelter...

Anyway, we will see

Go along to the Commune and ask. IIRC when I bought my place (which has no bunker of its own) there was some kind of an infosheet.

tbh, I'm not all that sure if I would go to the bunker in the event of an imminent attack.

The public shelter is usually not 1, it's several and not necessarily of ginormous proportions. I've built a one family house in which we built a bigger bunker, capable of sheltering 18 people, because the local town was running short on the places, so they struck a deal with our client.

If you can't find any mention in your contract about the shelter, you can always contact the local commune and they might perhaps check in their system where you are assigned to.

I have absolutely no idea where ours is and I don't recall ever have received any info about it when we built the place.

That being said I don't think I'll bother rushing to the commune to find out because in the unlikely event that it should be needed I don't see myself Being in a hurry to go there.

I wonder if any Swiss cities or military bases are actually targeted, considering its neutral status?
