Re: Paralympics

The German TV seems to have done a pretty good job with interesting interviews etc. in addition to showing quite a few events. The Brits will have to do some rule sorting before 2012 though. As I said in an earlier post, as unexpected situations come up, the rules have to be adapted. In at least one of the athletics events it looked as if the Chinese 'bent' things a little by putting all the fastest runners unto one semi final and the Chinese in the other. (first and second in each semi go to the final automatically plus next best four). There was also a Greek who was small enough in stature for the disability class he was in, but didn't have the same disability as all the others. His proportion arm length to body height was different, which gave him an unfair advantage when throwing - although he was within the rules. That'll give the International Paralympic Committee something to do for the next year or two...
We'll be able to revive this Thread in 2012...

Re: Paralympics

Reviving an old thread, as we don't seem to have one for 2016...

... meanwhile in Canton Jura a retired people's home has been stretching the inmates with some exercises aka the "Jura Paralympics", for their amusement.

Re: Paralympics

It's brilliant. As is the nightly Last Leg roundup of the events.

EditEd to say did any one see the record breaking (and holding) American archer who uses his foot to draw back the arrow? Stunning, humbling, inspiring TV.

I bloody love The Last Leg. We've been watching it religiously since the 2012 Paralympics. Strangely, someone on this forum called Adam Hills a "leftist" last week, and all I could think was.. "Well seeing it's his right leg that's artificial..."

Proper excited in our house today. My friend's son-in-law did even better than expected in his Canoe Sprint heat, and will be in the final tomorrow with the third fastest qualifying time! So if you see that Nick Beighton's won a medal tomorrow, rest assured I will be drunk in a shrubbery celebrating with his mum-in-law next week when she gets back from Rio.

Unfortunately for us ladies, I don't believe his event is being televised...but maybe the final will be...because Nick is hot! (apologies to his wonderful wife - but she already knows I've got a crush on him ) He even reduced Kirsty Allsop to tears on the armed forces edition of Location, Location, Location.

ooh.. Fingers crossed. Not for you drinking in the shrubbery, obviously, something tells me you have that covered!

Adam Hills would be a guest at my fantasy dinner party. Actually, I've got a fair few comedians on the list...

Sorry, leftist? Humanist, I'd say. I find he pretty much just says what everyone else is thinking but it a very eloquent way.

Johnny Peacock is my current crush. His comic timing is also excellent!

Re: Paralympics

Jonnie (sic) Peacock was brilliant in a tutu the other night.
Having worked with sportspeople! with disabilities for many years, I enjoy seeing their sport being more and more accepted and appreciated by 'outsiders'.
The Paralympics has come a long way in the past twenty years.

Makes you wonder if Rufus likes Mr Peacock or just men in tutus

Thank you! He got the bronze medal which is massive for him, as he wasn't seen as one of the team's medal hopes.
