Re: Sarah Palin to take new job as Fox pundit

It amazes me that people still think there is a substantive difference among the prominent Demopublican and Republicrat candidates for national office in the US. None of these people have any real power or initiative themselves. Their job is to provide theater and make voters feel personally involved in deciding the direction of the nation. Elections today focus on personality, scandals, and the peripheral hot-button cultural issues like abortion and gun-control. This all serves to distract from the major monetary, fiscal, civil liberty and foreign policy issues upon which the two parties nearly identically.

It should be apparent by now that the anti-war, pro-civil liberty Demopublican masses were duped into believing that Obama would be any different than Bush. Since the real power structure in America remains the same, of course we are getting more war, more bailouts for bankers and more erosion of the constitution.

The choice of Palin for VP in '08 was all about theater, as was Obama - she is extremely polarizing, as was the choice of a black man, which is exactly the formula to blind Americans to the larger issues at hand in DC today.

Choice of Obama as a candidate was a risk. But Its not about any theatrics. SP, on the other hand, was all about more attention for the mccain camp.

For me, The colour of the Obama was given too much attention by media in the last election.

"For me, The colour of the Obama was given too much attention by media in the last election."

His race was key - Americans were desperate for change, and Obama was just what the doctor ordered: a young, black guy who appeared to be socialist, anti-war and in favor of civil liberties.

That's probably because the majority don't understand socialists, socialist mean reds-under-the bed, in their minds socialism=communism, so socialists just refer to themselves as liberals. Basically Americans avoid words that can involve having an 'ism' tacked onto the end, even republicanism. Tony Blair in the American mind can not possible be associated with socialism.

Re: Sarah Palin to take new job as Fox pundit

This is Sarah Palin's world- stuck in a bygone era and the snake oil slaesman of ism's. Throw a load of ism's at her and she will be totally confused, especially Capitalism (which in the cartoon is conveniently referred to a Capitalist)

Watch from about 2:30 onwards, freedom cannot be associated with isms

Maybe I will get the Game Change book....

Quote:

Palin and Joe Biden shake hands before their vice presidential debate in 2008. The new book Game Change reveals how Palin had trouble remembering her opponent's name, repeatedly calling him 'O'Biden' during rehearsals.
According to the book, it was then that Steve Schmidt, Republican campaign chief, turned to the experts he had recruited and said: 'You guys have a lot of work to do. She doesn't know anything.'

I think the chances of her being a candidate are already 99.9%. But I agree, the free publicity may strengthen her candidacy. Let's just hope that being on national television will give Palin the opportunity to show the country that she really IS a joke.

In America you can't call yourself a socialist, but you can certainly be one, and there was a strong demand for one in '08. Hoppy is correct: liberal = socialist in 'murcan. Of course, the term liberal was better used 100+ years ago when it meant laissez-faire. Today for that you can say "classical liberal" or "libertarian."

Of course, today "conservative" means mostly socialist, corporatist and hawkish, while some decades ago the term meant staunchly anti-socialist and non-interventionist.

US political vocabulary really is through the looking glass.

Few American "classic liberals" appear Gladstonian and Libertarianism is rather at odds with the Victorian Liberal Party.

Free trade, yes. But Land Reform is hardly indicative of a wish for minimal government.

Which isn't? They're all theater and propaganda. Some people prefer to get their BS from CNN, others from Fox, others from the BBC. They are much more alike than their viewers realize, since they all support the police state, war and central banking.

Oh, gimme a break. I didn't claim any such thing, but stated which critical policies they all agree upon. Their differences are mostly about silly cultural issues that are a distraction from the real workings of money and power. If you don't believe that America is dominated by an oligarchy and doesn't really work like you were taught in social studies class, you are kidding yourself.

Palin again...

Sarah Palin literally wrote down some parts of her speech on her left hand while delivering her views on obama's policies at Tea party convention.

Somebody needs to point her to ipad.
