Sure is (Im told).
Seriously this woman is dangerous and if she ever made it to the White House we would all be in trouble! She is fast becoming a parody of herself.

Is she, though?

Her rhetoric is strong, for sure, but she's speaking to her audience. Can you imagine her being quite so gung-ho once she found herself responsible for the day to day drudgery of running the country, surrounded by civil servants, advisors, lawyers and lobbyists, all getting on her case about signing this, stamping that, or being at this particular meeting or other at this time with this particular pile of documents?

I always chuckle when I think of the loudmouths of Sinn Fein being reduced to worrying about sewage and school meals in the NI Assembly...

Actual government is a profoundly menial business - and has little to do with ideology, at the end of the day.

Sarah Palin would be as bad as any other President of the United States - no worse, and no better.

Somehow I find that quite comforting. Not sure the civilians of northern Pakistan, Novi Sad or Falujah would agree with me, though...

Re: More pearls of wisdom from the Oracle Palin

Doug's comment that it doesn't matter who the president is (paraphrased) is ridiculous. Palin would be a catastrophe, for many reasons. The president is a lot more powerful than most people realise. Example: imagine the idiots she'll push into the judiciary.

The world could have been a lot different today if Bush was never appointed president (he wasn't elected in 2000) by his republican judge friends in a 5-4 decision (5 republicans vs 4 democrats), made possible only because previous republicans had been fortunate enough to replace a lot of moderate and leftist judges (nixon alone got to appoint no less than four supreme court justices during his reign). To say nothing of the lower courts (many many new appointments).

Looking at the facts is it not easy to outperform G.W. Bush:
- start more wars than he did. The two campaigns at once seem to have been enough even for the mightiest army of the world. Not many in the US would support a war against any seriously powerful enemy after that experiment. Let alone one who actually does have WMDs...
- destroy the US image of being "ethically right"... I am surely not anti-American in any way, but even I cannot get the pictures of Guantanamo let alone Abu Ghraib out of my head. Whenever a US politician today critizises a developing nation for their abuse of human rights, I simply cannot take him seriously anymore. Even more so as Guantanamo still exists and Obama did not close it as he has promised. There are still a three digit number of people living since 2002 in terrible conditions without a fair trial or even knowing what the US believe they did. The damage for the US as an "idea" to follow for other nations can hardly be overestimated - it is a blow against all values the west stands for.
- make more enemies. Before, many did not exactly like the US. For many reasons, some of them logical, others less so. Bush has turned a Billion Muslims against the US - and to be honest, one cannot ignore the strong evngelical "let's have a crusade" ideology he had... the breeding ground for terrorists got surely far better over the past decade. The "war on terror" was a flawed concept from the beginning and I would say it is lost.

Having said that... if there is one US politician dumb enough to really try to make it worse it might be Palin.

Can't comprehend a single reason to perpetuate the Palin talk, giving her more 'relevance'

How so?

As long as she'd be no 'worse', she'll be doing far better than most in my lifetime!

I've been on really good behavior these last few days, because I'm guessing that if I'm considered to have been a naughty boy during my life, then I'd end up straight in hell. Otherwise known as an NRA convention with Sarah Palin as guest speaker.

Why people find it easy to hate America

Does anyone remember what the British Liberal Democrats said they would do "if they were in charge"?

I'd like to think it was the women of America that kept her from getting into office. Most men were too busy thinking MILF.

No - Sarah Palin keeps Sarah Palin from getting in office.

But she isn't in it for the power. If you think of her as a unique grifter, she starts making a lot more sense.

Incedible how far the apple can fall from the tree...

July 2009 -

Riding my bicycle down the Old Denali Highway in Alaska, I stopped for a snack at perhaps the only gas station/store in an area the size of CH. The only other people there were an older couple, extremely friendly, and we had a nice long chat about travelling, nature, environmental remediation, endangered species, and a host of other things. Maybe we talked for an hour or so. At the time I thought it was really strange that such interesting and informed people were both wearing Sarah Palin t-shirts, but I didn't say anything. As they were about to head off,i asked where they were headed, and they said "We're going to Anchorage. Our daughter is giving up the governership this afternoon."...!!! What?! They knew what I was thinking - how could she possibly be related to them? They explained that they don't share many of the same views, and never talk politics...but she is their daughter so they were going to show support for her nonetheless...

A few weeks later I met a friend near the Wrangell St. Elias range, and told him the story. "Oh, you met Chuck and Sally? Great guy, Chuck. He was my high school science teacher.."!!!

Alaska - gigantic state, small world

Re: More pearls of wisdom from the Oracle Palin

A possible (but highly unlikely) Presidential candidate for 2016, Sarah Palin, has again served us again some tasty mixed word salad in a speech given yesterday. It has been reported that the teleprompter froze, a glitch that seems to happen in many of her speeches, so much of this (again reported) is ad-libbed.

Sarah Palin is a staunch Tea Party representative. The Democrats, reeling in Schadenfreude, posted their reply by simply saying "thank you."

Have fun.

It's interesting that she references Saul Alinsky:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_for_Radicals

His work was mostly on community organisation of minority groups persecuted by the right.
