Ah...

Some news broadcasters strive to be unbiased as possible.
Some news broadcasters skewer their news to send an underlying message, such as Fox News. Those sly devils.
Well, most at least try to cover it a bit more. I was sickened when I saw "embedded" reporters in the last wars... and often some slightly changed terms make a huger difference:

Example:

BBCs rules for the Israel-Palastine conflict

vs.

CNN

Doesn't mean I want to see her in the White House, or anywhere near it - but she comes across as a very ordinary, very normal person - and normal people are such a delight when they pop up in politics.
what makes her more "normal" than anyone else in politics? because she tweets, facebooks + is a hockey mum?

Well it will certainly give programmes like The Daily Show more ammo, which can only be a good thing.

Yes, yes, I know.

For all that though - I like the woman - always have. Read part of her book over the holidays, and found it equal parts dreadful and heartwarming. (OK, *almost* equal parts...)

Doesn't mean I want to see her in the White House, or anywhere near it - but she comes across as a very ordinary, very normal person - and normal people are such a delight when they pop up in politics.
By normal people, if you mean oppurtunistic redheads, then there is something really wrong in the world.

Do you know what her daughter is doing now? She is the national abstinence spokesperson. WTF. I saw one of her interviews in which she never answers any questions regarding her abstinence background.

I suppose what I mean by "normal" is probably something like "lower middle class" - or "from a similar socioeconomic background to mine" in Americanspeak.

Tweeting and facebooking - not really. Thinking more of family life, education and work history (working her way through college, getting married and then working in the fish factory) and the way that politics seems not to have been a life's ambition for her, but just something she kind of stumbled into (in the beginning anyway.) People like that are common enough figures in local politics, but very rare at the national level - rare enough to be a breath of fresh air, no matter what their particular views.

Doesn't hurt either that I have family in Alaska, and so find her accent charming instead of annoying.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I was offered, out of the blue, the chance to move to Switzerland for a couple years - I took it, without any intention of staying here longer than that, because it was a more attractive prospect than anything else I had going - and now I'm looking at marrying and settling down here. Does that make me an opportunist too?

Some things are rare for good reasons. Lack of skills or knowledge for example.

I live far away and do not need to worry about any internal US politics, not my problem how she would screw it up. I do not care that she does not believe in evolution or global warming - even that she thought you can see Russia from Alaska was a bit funny.
But imagining her in a position where she could command the strongest army of the world and nuclear weapons is just scary.

i understand where you are coming from (there are many who support palin)
but from a woman's perspective, is she really the best representation of all the women in America?
Hilary came across as cold, so was condoleeza and that is where they lost out on the housewife vote, but sarah acting the cheesy-winking-hockey mum to get where she is? it's just cringeworthy...

I believe obama and bill clinton both had humble beginnings too...

That makes you a practical person, not oppurtunisic.

But the actions taken by Sarah Palin affects a lot of people. In Politics, you have to keep the right balance. Palin typifies the typical blonde jokes. FYI, she is actually a blonde

I think the chances of her being a candidate are already 99.9%. But I agree, the free publicity may strengthen her candidacy. Let's just hope that being on national television will give Palin the opportunity to show the country that she really IS a joke.

fduvall
This woman leaves public office to chase the cash, and then still has a viable chance serving the public in the very near future. She needs to make up her mind. And the American public needs to snap out of it. Idiots (and yes, I am American).
