Fear and Loathing in the Blogosphere

Gideon Rachman, blogger for the daily FT.com, gets attacked viciously for an article which suggests the world "could" and "might" eventually create some sort of global gov't as a consequence of the current Crisis.

While I don't really have any opinion on the guy's point of view, I find the popular reaction to his opinion sadly interesting.

Is this the western equivalent of a fatwa ?.... Are the opposites slowly melting together, as the Tao wisely implies?
