Lord Mandelson escapes assassination attempt

Mandelson attacked... with green custard

LONDON (AFP) — A protester threw a cupful of green custard in the face of business secretary Peter Mandelson on Friday, in a stunt to highlight opposition to a new runway at London's Heathrow airport.
Mandelson was arriving for a London summit on carbon strategy when protester Leila Deen approached him and hurled a large cupful of custard straight in the former European Union trade commissioner's face, at close range.
Mandelson bent over, turned away and hurried inside, while the protester picked up papers she had dropped and calmly walked off.

Apparently he thought it was soup until a reporter put him right. Just shows he's got no taste!

Shame. I was watching him interviewed this morning around 7am and he was wearing a smart suit. You never know the minute...

Re: Lord Mandelson escapes assassination attempt

The thing is that if you watch the reply he appears to look down nervously at the cup for a fraction of a sec. but then seems to shrug it off as if to say "nah..she wouldn't, would she?" So no taste and no judgement! I have to say, he handled the episode with some dignity..well as dignified as somebody can be dripping in green custard.

Tomorrow's Screws of the World will have a front page about how accepted a loan from the cup of custard and then helped it to stay in the country when it turns out that it been made from foreign eggs.

Hardly ever seen something so unspectacular

Maybe they should try it with green custard pies next time?

Way to go!

Are you sure it was green custard or was he actually shot and has now revealed to the world he is of Vulcan origin? He does have a bit of a Leonard Nimoy look about him

Will the protester get away with it or will she be taken into custardy?

Lucky the custard wasn't lumpy - could have been nasty...

You need pudding down for that! Or at least some porridge.

What a joy to behold! The protestor's comment "the only green thing about Mandelson, is the slime coursing through his veins", also raised a smile!
