Re: Morgan Tsvangirai's wife was killed

Sad story I've read that government thugs have beaten up Tsvangirai in the past and once nearly threw him out of a window. So their involvement can at least not be entirely excluded. On the other hand I don't know how common serious traffic accidents are in Zimbabwe.
With Zanu PF holding more power than the opposition maybe this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back regarding MDC's participation?

Car accidents are as common in this part of the world as everywhere else except that common sense makes it hard to believe.

After all that has happened to this brave man,it does seem as though something is not quite right.

Already some mainstream UK papers are reporting that it could well have been an assassination attempt - example.

Re: Morgan Tsvangirai's wife was killed

I lived in Zimbabwe for 6 months. Such a beautiful place and the folk and land were so nice. Why someone cannot kill the old rsole Mugabe is beyond my comprehension. Smart bombs etc.
The guy is a thug and has raped and gutted the land that he pretends to love.
In any other country, you could pay a couple of grand to get rid of this slime. The talk of trillions of dollars to bail out a financial cockup makes me think there is no political will to remove the old guy. This guy makes a mockery of the whole world psuedo togetherness.

Shame Mugabe was not in the same car

I agree with you as well. This post, although 2 years old, is still relevant today: http://www.opendemocracy.net/democra...thday_4371.jsp

What proof do we have that this was anything other than a tragic accident? The fact that the truck belonged to USAID makes talk of a Zanu-PF hit seem unlikely. In addition I thought Mugabe was desperate for Tsvangirai to reboot the economy and bring an end to International sanctions.
I'm certainly not an apologist for Mugabe, but I fail to see what motive there was.

Hi Castro,
I am from Africa and i know African politics. It is common in Africa that head of states lure their political opponents into the Government then they smite them and proclaim that it was an accident. For example in Cameroon, most of the oppositions who try to cut deal with the regime got themselves smoked or jailed.

Well, sadly enough that happens in many other countries (to a lesser extend though): Venezuela, Cuba, Sudan.....

Re: Morgan Tsvangirai's wife was killed

<Breaking News>

Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has said the car crash that killed his wife was an accident.

Mr Tsvangirai said there was only a "one in a thousand" chance that the incident involved any foul play.
He was speaking as the lorry driver involved in the collision was expected to plead not guilty to culpable homicide at a court appearance.
Mr Tsvangirai has returned to Zimbabwe to prepare his wife's funeral after undergoing treatment in Botswana.
"When something happens, there is always speculation but I want to say in this case, if there was any foul play, it was one in a thousand," Mr Tsvangirai was quoted as telling mourners outside his home in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare.
Referring to his late wife, he said: "It was an accident and unfortunately it took her life." Many Zimbabweans are suspicious about Mrs Tsvangirai's death, because of past acrimony between Mr Tsvangirai and President Robert Mugabe. Police have said a lorry carrying aid crossed into the lane in which the prime minister's 4x4 was travelling on Friday and side-swiped the vehicle, causing it to roll over three times.
