He should just feck off now, talk about stringing it out. Of course then a General Election should be called.

Re: Just go !!!!

The Dear Leader was superb on Prime Ministers Questions yesterday. Completely neutralised all opposition. Demob happy, perhaps, but when he's relaxed he's an amazing orator. They'll be no General Election (today there're local elections) as there's no precedent to do so. We vote candidates who represent a party, not the leader of the party. Maggie Thatcher (Milk Snatcher) left and Major John came in without a general election.

Re: Just go !!!!

I know that Labour would not be obliged to call a General Election and chances of them doing so are negligible as they know they would probably lose. I just think that as no-one voted for Gordon Brown to be Prime Minister it would only be polite .

Re: Just go !!!!

I think it will be the closest election for years & suspect that when it comes to actually voting a lot of people will go back to labour because that is what they are used to.... It will also be interesting to see if the Conservative party manage to hang onto their seat.

Hi Lou, well now the great chunderer will be looking over his shoulder every 5 mins, once he moves into Number 10 .... I really hope that the Lib Dems decide to put the boot in & go for an anti-Labour coalition ....

Also heres the Scottish Tories election garble (if your interested) http://www.scottishconservatives.com...sp?article=633

It appears the fat lady has not yet quit singing. Just saw on the news that a couple of legal challenges are in the offing on the results. Apparently a boat bringing a ballot box from Arran to the mainland broke down & the votes were not counted.

well I'm sure Presbyterian no nonsense will stop us falling into a spiral of "chadness"
also, John Reid has done the honourable thing & fallen on his sword (resigned from Cabinet) .... never liked the guy, but have to admire him for this.

Re: Just go !!!!

It seems that June 27th will be the day of departure...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6639945.stm

...I also note with interest that the Lib Dems have tabled a parliamentary motion asking the Queen to dissolve government and force a general election - about as much chance of that as there is of Michael Meacher beating Gordon Brown into no. 10

Ah well, he'll only be there a year or so before Bliar Mk II takes up office (AKA David Cameron)

Re: Just go !!!!

I think Gordon Brown has a job on his hands...his personal popularity is not high and neither is that of his party.

I have a feeling that if that isn't perceived to have changed within a couple of months of him taking over, he will attempt something dramatically different to break free of the Blair legacy...

..Could an announcement along the lines of a complete withdrawal of British troops from Iraq be on the cards?

Re: Just go !!!!

It's a shame really he was such a idiot over Iraq when he had multiple chances to back out.

N.I. will hopefully stick together and that's perhaps one lasting thing we can thank him for.

Not much else of significance though.

Re: Just go !!!!

Devolution? Mayor of London? Family tax credit? The New Deal for unemployment? Minimum wage? Abolishing payment of student fees?

Yes, all controversial, but ultimately all very good for Britain imo.

I stand corrected.

Yup forgot about minimum wage, a bit short sighted not to think about devolution.

Student fees? Is that not Scotland, does that not still apply elsewhere?

Mayor of London's an interesting one, was thinking more along the lines of what nationally has changed for the better for everyone. That will stick in the future as a sort of how will history see the guy?

By the way for my sins I used to vote labour.

...free nursery care; 1000's more teachers, doctors, nurses - with better wages; six months maternity leave; right to flexible hours; disability rights improved; Freedom of Information Act; civil partnerships / repeal of Clause 28...(deep breath)...vibrant market economy where wealth was created and distributed... (getting bored now, so I'll stop )
