Iran: worst PR ever?

Iran, like many countries, has a lot of plus points. They just seem to do everything they can to hide them from the world, and put holocaust deniers and nutjobs front and centre. And make idiotic trip-ups like this

All this stuff makes Ahmedi-Najad the real world equivalent of a troll. "I'm a bit bored this morning, who shall I annoy?"

Any relation, do you think?

Is EF breaking the law ?

Yes, exactly - but it's hard to fit logic into anything he does (both of them really, although I'd like to trust the sort-of-head-of-state of a country more that a phantom of zeinternetz.com

I feel sorry for Ms Ebadi. Maybe in a day or two we hear the reasons for this confiscations

What I do like about Iran though is the Farsi language. Just beautiful to listen to and here is a short lesson of it

Re: Iran: worst PR ever?

On the other hand it is business as usual.

Some major Dubai investors are switching to Iran, as well as western companies. If irna won't go to Dubai then Dubai will go to Iran?

Quote:
"It is slated to invest about $400 million in 11 stores across the country." The Tehran store's managing director, Mark Courboin, was quoted earlier by the Islamic Republic News Agency as saying: "Due to some political problems between Iran and France, Carrefour has not permitted us to use its name here."

I do get kind of worried when Iranians start counting slowly.

Jigareh man ( my liver) is a term of endearment

She has a strange accent don't you think? Or is it because she speaks slowly?

But only when they're counting down and you're within a few hundred km of Iran, right?

(Apologies to my Iranian friends and relatives . . . I'm only joking!)

Hah- so you still speak Farsi? To me the vowel sounds are slighty anglicized- doh seh. Also it is not Jonbeh for Friday but Jom-beh the emphasis and spelling is off. Saturday is Shanm-beh. But it isn't that bad and she is cute. Sounds like me neices in Landan (London)

Re: Iran: worst PR ever?

Here-some better PR close friends, family members and students of family members. You don't have to watch but I feel highly indebted to post it. Please don't judge us on the few.

The poem is about being spurned by someone/thing that you love, being made to travel the earth and being willing to be slaughtered for that love.

Last but not least the voice of a woman that I owe much to and miss.
Here's an attempt at translation but generally much that is written in Iranian poetry is in riddle form making it difficult to translate, so I'm guessing at the connotations

Our backyard hedges in an abundance of sweet fruits
With blooms, streams, deer, tulips & jonquils
refrain: Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
The hedges run for thousands of miles, with clouds displaying a thousand colours
Beautiful, even in drizzle and storms
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
It rains in our backyard, drenching winds nurture the blooms.
The Sahand (Tabriz mountain range) is tall and its eyes shine like jewels
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Blanketed by tall pine trees, running with the flowing manes of horses
Our backyard has a courtyard, its veranda is Damavand (highest mountain Alborz range-elevation approx 5,500m)
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Our backyard has flower-gardens, shade and sun
Thorns on Albourz rocks contain a hundreds of types of thyme. (Iranian thyme has antibacterial and courage giving powers)

Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Three of its flowers- snow, rain and the other works of fire.
Its desert is prickly and salty (Again the power to heal can be found within), in Gilan (province) rice paddies stretch till Karoon (river)
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Our backyard gives rise to ballads, sung from pistachio trees
Bird on its pistachio branch with a broken wing
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Rolling meadows, full of jewels
On each stone (jewel) sits a butterfly
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Our backyard has padlocks, signs and symbols
Its gates are open but guarded by Lions
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Its New Year (first day of spring) celebration chases away gloom
Tigers from the Book of Kings guard against cowardly goats (The Book of Kings /Shahnameh was written to counteract invading Arabic culture)
Don’t be fooled by the size of pepper corn, break it and you know it is sharp
Our backyard retains morning’s dew within its curved flowers and leaves
Its sword forged steel, its heart soft as silk

she has the weirdest Farsi accent I have ever come across.

not unpleasant... but by no means representative of what you will hear in Tehran.

Yes, its nice, but it was invented in Iran (Persia) before Christ. So what you actually like about Iran is its past, not its present.

I have a hard time finding "lots" of things I might like about today's Iran.

That country is in such a state of disgrace! The problem is not PR, the problem is real.

Re: Iran: worst PR ever?

Ahmadinejad just get weirder.

Quote:
Mr Ahmadinejad belongs to a minority sect called the Hasteners; they believe that it is the duty of the faithful to prepare the way for the return of the Hidden Imam - or Mahdi - and perhaps even to create propitious conditions. Professor Ansari says this has led to some eccentric behaviour by the president's entourage.
They have meals where they leave a place at the table in case the Imam appears, they have spent large amounts of money refurbishing a well at a shrine where it is thought the Imam may appear, and, Professor Ansari says, "they've even had fanciful notions of, when they write their cabinet proposals, taking a note and dropped it down the well so the imam can be aware of it".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8314126.stm

I read somewhere that there was a massive shortfall in the Iranian oil revenue which could not be accounted for. Ahmadinejad, when asked, replied that it would return with the 12th imam

More demonstrations in Iran.
As per usual: the world is looking elsewhere.

Ahmadinejad is expected to come to Copenhagen's climate summit - I wonder how will the locals receive him.
