Hello!

Brisbanegirl here. New to the forum and (relatively) to Switzerland, I thought I should drop in here to say hi and give you some infos about me.

The short story is that I'm a lawyer from Australia (Brisbane to be precise). A little over a year ago, I moved to Switzerland to work in an NGO in Geneva. I planned to stay about 6 months and then go save the world. But after 5 weeks I met a bloke in Basel. And, after a year of commuting between the two cities, I moved there.

That was 3 or 4 weeks ago. Now I'm starting again in a new city, this forum is a great looks like a great way to get the inside tips and have a giggle Very glad to be part of it and looking forward to meeting you all online!

Welcome to Basel. I lived in Geneva back and forth from the states for 6 years. I was in a long distance relationship that also landed us here in Basel with my Swiss partner who I have now married after 6.5 years of many transatlantic flights. I have to say I much prefer Basel. I have now been here permanently for 6 months. The people are very nice and German was easier for me to learn(still learning) than French. All the best to you.

basel from geneva, should be very similar for you. I think they even speak french up there in certain areas being so close to France.

I visited Brisbane a couple of years ago. I thought it was a great easy-going place - you must miss the coast?

As for the coast, well yes, sometimes I long for an uninterrupted view of nothing but water and big skies. But at least CH has wild mountains. A flavour of the dangerous and unpredictable makes an Aussie feel much more at home
