New to Zürich

Hi everyone - first post here. I'm an American grad student, just arrived here August 1 to study mathematics at Uni ZH for a year.

After reading some of the posts here I guess I must have lucked out in the Great Apartment Search - I found a nice little studio in the Altstadt for under CHF1000 and signed papers on it last night.
Thus, the Great (Cheap) Furniture Search begins! I heard there's an Ikea somewhere around here, so I suppose I'll go and check that out Saturday (though other suggestions would certainly be welcome!)

I've got a question about traveling and ausweisses (ausweisen?), which is what prompted me to de-lurk. But that's another topic for another forum...

Níl Gaeilge ag aon duine anseo, an bhfuil? (It's too much to hope for...)

Abigail

Re: New to Zürich

I'm just back from reading some of the forum guidelines... it would seem that I should have put an English translation with the Irish above.
Sorry 'bout that.

Anyway, the line in my first post was just There's nobody here who speaks Irish, is there? Dod replied that he (she?) thinks there are probably a good many, and I responded: Thanks so much for your answer - I don't feel quite so alone any more! Do you know if there are any language-related events on?

Re: New to Zürich

Welcome, yourself! Agus go raibh maith agat.

No, definitely American -- I went to a university in the States that had Irish classes. It was something I'd always wanted to learn "someday when I have time" anyway, so it made sense to pick it up at that point.
