Re: From New Jersey to Zurich

Hello NJFamily,

I hope you have settled nicely in Zurich and your kids have adjusted well to the move.
We are a young couple, I am from NJ my husband is German, and we are possibly moving to Basel in 3 months.

Can you please kindly share me with your experience so far with moving & settling there?
My husband is very much against the move as he lived in Zurich and keeps telling me how expensive it is to live in Switzerland. Our gross income will be roughly 180,000 SF yearly for the two of us & our dog and we are very FRUGAL people.

I would appreciate any advice from the forum, which I find extremely helpful.

P.S. The GIANTS are going to the Superbowl!!!!!!!

Re: From New Jersey to Zurich

We have recently moved to Thalwil over the summer and our kids go to the International School as well. So far we are having a great time here, but it does take getting used to. To reply to a poster (from may) as to why people don't consider local schools, not all of us are here permanently. My main objective is the bigger picture, I can't have my kids lose a year of the 2 years we are here not learning the material. They would fall pretty far behind their peers back home (which would result in bad placement of classes when they get back). My kids are already bilingual (not in any of the languages spoken in Switzerland though), so learning German is not the biggest priority for us. When you think about this, you can't think of it as black and white. What works best for one family is not necessarily what's best for another.
In any case, the kids (and us) love it here and all are already asking to stay here longer. To me, that's a positive experience. Now if we could have more sun in the winter...
