Visiting Switzerland

HI Everyone!

I am new here so i don't know if I am doing this right.. I am fascinated with all the information you can get in this site. I think it's a great!

I am going to visit my boyfriend who is a Swiss this October. I live in Thailand right now. I live all my life in hot weather and I don't know what to expect about the weather. My boyfriend says, it's a little bit cold. Does anyone of you have an experienced same as mine?

Re: Visiting Switzerland

Which part of Switzerland are you coming to? I see you are Filipina, as is my girlfriend. If Zürich, perhaps I can give you some tips of places to go so you won't feel homesick. Couple of shops, restaurants, and karaoke places.

Re: Visiting Switzerland

Hi miyax!

Kumusta! I hope you enjoy your visit to Switzerland. It was my first time to go there last June. The daytime is nice and warm, a lot like Baguio, and it was crisp at night. I'm sure it will be colder in October.

bfh, please do share those tips. I'll be moving there soon and it would be interesting to see how Swiss adobo tastes like.

Thanks bfh! I am going to St. Gallen. How come you know I am a filipina? (",). I am also worried because if I will live there I might feel homesick.

Erm, because you put it in your (public) profile ?

Actually, last October wasn't particularly cold - bit of an late mini-summer if I remember rightly. Bring a brolly though.

Re: Visiting Switzerland

Unfortunately, none of them have web sites. I'll give you what info I have to hand, but you should be able to find these places.
In Zürich City:-

Golden Asian Store, Limmatstrasse 199, Tram 4/13 Quellen Strasse. This was originally just a mini supermarket, but they made space at the front for a few tables, and serve freshly cooked Philippine food, plus have karaoke. I have eaten there a couple of times, and my girlfriend often shops there. The food is OK, but there is only space for maybe a dozen people to eat.

Schaffhauserstrasse, can't remember the number, but it's between Sternen Oerlikon and Salersteig, Tram 10/14 on the western (sic) side of the road. This is a mini supermarket for Philippine food, but also they have a few Tagalog films on VCD, plus you can buy Balikbayon (apologies for any Tagolog spelling errors!) boxes, which they will collect from your apartment. I know one Filipina that fills one with mineral water and sends it back 3 months before her trips home! Don't you have mineral water there? I have yet to make my first visit so can't say

Philippine-Center, Hardstrasse 43, tram or bus to Albisriederplatz. I can't comment on what this is, I found it via google looking for the other places

There is a Filipino run bar I discovered through a lady a few weeks back that has karaoke. Wednesday-Sunday from 9PM. It's quite a big place, couple of pool tables one side, darts as i recall, and the other side a dance area. Can't remember the name but it is tucked away behind a car dealer/petrol station in Wehntalerstrasse, opposite the south end of Birchstrasse. Take a tram 11, bus 32/40. Go round the back of the car dealer, and the place is upstairs in the bulding on the right. You will see the lights on

Outside the city:-

Lou's Exotic delights, Hochstrasse 10, Pfaffikon, Canton Zürich NOT Schwyz. Lou sells freshly cooked Philippine specialities, and they also have Karaoke. I can recommend this one for the food and the atmosphere.
Pfaffikon is a nice little town around 30 minutes from Zürich with the S3.

There is a little shop behind Goethestrasse in Stäfa, canton Zürich. It's opposite the Migro supermarket, but tucked away round the back. This is quite a small supermarket, but you can also get Balikbayon boxes. If in doubt, ask an Asian person. Many work at nearby Phonak.

Just one point on the supermarkets. Many items I have seen sold in them are also available in English shops, and may be cheaper as the import costs won't be so high.

Anyway, welcome to Zürich and enjoy. PM me if you want more info and I'll ask people. By all means click the thanks button and boost my ego!

Apologies to the Forum moderator if this is not deemed appropriate for the Forum, but it is a topic for our shared language English

Thanks for the infos!!! Looking forward to visit these shops/restaurants soon!!
Actually we do have mineral water (from Germany) sold at either
http://www.germandeli.ph/index.php or at Santi's Deli. So you don't have to transport your drinking water if you decide to visit Manila!

This particular lady comes from the west side of Leyte. As I said, I haven't been yet, but I'm sure most major towns supermarkets there sell mineral water. By all means correct me if I'm wrong

ALL supermarkets sell mineral water. I think I have a faint idea what she's doing with it.

or giving it out to friends / relatives as something she brought "imported from Switzerland" (a.k.a. pasalubong in the Philippines' native language)

it's actually something like that... but I doubt if she's saying it's from Switzerland.

Hi msteiner, are you from the Philippines as well? If you see any Mama Sita's powder mix, let me know. I'm craving for some caldereta!
