The new ghetto areas of Oerlikon might be more up your street.
I still think it's funny when people tell me I live in the ghetto! Where I live, near Oerlikon, is just as nice as the very nice part of London that I lived in, fabulous value apartment, quick commute to the airport (quite important when your partner works outside the country) out in countryside within minutes for running and cycling, 25mins by tram to HB, great amenities (pools, supermarkets, transport, local services). I'm even walking distance from Opfikon. Can I have the OP's job?!!

Re: living in pfaffikon, SZ vs lachen

Funny I just saw this post and was going to suggest looking at Treverus's place, but I see he's just posted! It's super, super nice, modern and in a great area, not only for the tax.

It depends what you're making but living just on the Canton border in a similar place to him not 5 mins away I can assure everyone the tax benefits are more than a few rappen, sure rentals and prop purchases are higher but with the right income the tax savings are FAR higher! It is 1000m difference that makes my tax higher than his!!!

There is a very good reason why Rodger Federer, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Nicole Scherzinger and soon to be Michael Schumacher moving from Neuchâtel reside in Wollerau..if you could stand them being neighbours that is! LOL

As said, horses for courses. Depends on what you like and so many other things. Advising somebody you know nothing about is a bit impossible.
We just love it where we are - paradise on earth for us, and yet many would just hate it.

I moved to Pfäffikon SZ August 2013 in the new residencial area close to the train station, so far I would say perfect location for mine and my wife needs, I commute to ZH and she to Chur (pretty far I know). Despite the church bells, the rest is fine.
