Barcelona to Geneva move

Hi there I came across this site whilst searching the web. I am a Brit and currently live in Barcelona and work for a software company that covers sales across Europe. So I can live anywhere in Europe near an airport as I travel a lot. I was thinking of moving to Switzerland for tax reasons and for the experience for my wife and kids. I have been doing research for a while but am still none the wiser. So I have a few questions which I would be grateful if someone could answer:-
  • What is the income tax rate that you pay if you live in or around Geneva?
  • What other taxes are there?
  • I heard that the Swiss government can cap your income tax rate at €60,000. Is that true?
  • How much would a 4 bedroom house or apartment cost to rent around Geneva?
  • Can I get a residence permit even though I won't have a work permit as I work for a US company that does not have an office or identity in Switzerland.
  • What is the normal timeframe to get a residence permit?
  • Can anyone reccomend a specialist to help me with further questions? i.e. a relocation expert or tax specialist.
Any help wpuld be appreciated.

I guess you know this - but it depends on the income...

Church tax, radio/TV broadcast tax

Four bedroom... good luck. www.homegate.ch

Residence only is being granted either to retirees or to dependant household members. You will likely have to apply for an independent work permit.

Quite short for Europeans.

Re: Barcelona to Geneva move

I worked for a US company in IT before I moved to Switzerland. I worked from home in the UK. Unfortunatley even though I can work from anywhere like yourself. The UK arm of the company (HR human remains) refused to let me move and remain an employee. Anyway that's water under the bridge.

Good luck. Personally I wouldn't move from Barcelona. Geneva is far more expensive generally. Even though the lake goregeous it isn't quite the sea. But that's a personal opinion.

Assuming taxation at source, 1.7 FX rate to the CHF to keep it straightforward, 31.20%.

The 35.15% cap rate is reached at CHF 580'200.
