Another Capetonian reporting for duty

Greetings all,

I'm moving to Switzerland, Baden area, at the end of February. I've browsed around on the forum for some handy tips but all good things should probably start with an introduction. Here goes:

Married, no kids. Typical boerseun: here you should read, love the outdoors, ball sport (as long as the ball is not round and larger than a cricket ball) and a good get together / braai. Hmm, what else, good wine, travelling, economics although I'm an engineer by trade, and dogs.

I am Afrikaans but apart from English can speak Dutch (or my own special blend of Nederkaans 75% Dutch 25% Afrikaans) but enough comfortably get by. I speak enough German to get to the closest hotel and order a cold beer.

Lived in the Netherlands for the last while and my wife is Saffa/Dutch.

Super excited about the move, but alas, lots to do and organise still.

Tot zo!

Ok guys, that's your allowance of foreign words used up.

Having lived in the Netherlands you'll not be too worried about our weather which is a good start. Whereabouts in SA do you come from? Quite a few folk from there on here.

O, I forgot, Welcome to the Forum.

Re: Another Capetonian reporting for duty

Yes, you most definitely do not move to Holland for the weather.

I grew up in the northern parts, close to Johannesburg. But after studying in Stellenbosch and living in the area for a quite a while my default answer these days is Cape Town to foreigners and Stellenbosch for the initiated.

I have been reading quite a couple of posts over the last while and came across many of the Saffas you mentioned. Just try and search for biltong or rugby and you are bound to find a number of SA inspired posts.

Thank you for the welcome.
