I will be moving to the Canton of Vaud in May full time with my partner and dog from the UK but I am starting my search now for an apartment or house to rent. I will be working in the Valle Joux so any advice of suitable areas to search around Nyon and Morges would be gratefully received

If you don't want to live in the Vallee, and don't need to be in a highly populated area (and have a car), I'd look at St. Cergue. It's a 15 minute ride into Nyon, with train service, and from Nyon you can be in Geneva or Lausanne very quickly and easily for any big city needs. From St. Cergue into the Vallee is a piece of cake, you will go through La Cure and a little bit of France and then there you are.

If you want to be near Lac Leman I prefer Nyon to Morges. There are plenty of little villages 'up the mountain' from either place that will be cheaper and give you easy access to the Vallee. But from St. Cergue it's really easy. They have a couple of ski runs too if you're into that.

Vallee de Joux is very beautiful and very economical to live there. I would very much prefer living there, but understand it is not everyone's cup of tea. If you want to live outside the vallee with a train commute, look at Lasuanne and Morges, living closer to Geneva will likely require you to have a car and drive over the Jura on a daily basis, doable but after a while may not be worth it. Just to note, the Geneva-Lausanne area has extremely costly housing, if you can find availabity at all, just beware it may take some time. If on a budget and like a more rural setting, stay in the vallee or perhaps Yverdon.
