From small town USA to even smaller town CH--Fribourg, to be exact

Hello! I am vrabbit. I have not moved to Switzerland yet, but I have recently accepted a position at the University of Fribourg, to begin this summer.

I am a voracious researcher in many aspects of my life, and so this job presents a great way for me to see if google search will break with how much searching I do This forum frequently came up in my searches and so I thought it would be best to register, especially because I would love to make new friends when I move.

I'm originally from Los Angeles, California but now live in a small city in Colorado. I love Colorado very much, and was excited to see how similar Switzerland is in many ways (at least on the front).

My main goal right now has been to see if I could somehow get my boyfriend to find a job and move with me. From everything I've read here and otherwise, the future looks bleak. Hopefully we can make something work.

I look forward to comparing the Alps to the Rockies and making your acquaintance.

Welcome to the forum!! Don't be bleak. Fribourg is beautiful and the people are very friendly. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your boyfriend. But when you arrive message me and we'll meet for a coffee. Have a look at the FEW group too (Fribourg expats women) there always social stuff going on with them.
Good luck with the move. It's wonderful here. 😃

Fribourg is a great place to live, and has attracted a large ex-pat community in the last 18 months or so.
I worked at the Uni Fribourg for 5 years, which department will you be working in?

Main difference is that the Alps are white year round ... that is why I have stopped going to Colorado and go to Switzerland instead. Actually only one of many, many reasons.

From one small town American to another, welcome to Fribourg. A nice size of city, not too big but plenty of things going on. Good central location in Switzerland and also well fixed for hearing both French and German spoken, if you're into learning languages.

I'll be working in the psychology department. Which one are you in? How do you like the university?

That's so interesting! I have heard from one person so far the skiing is not as good in the Alps as in the Rockies, and that they haven't been getting a lot of snow this season. I really hope for the opposite; I LOVE winter sports (and summer, too) and so I'm looking forward to having my Rockies away from the Rockies

Thanks again, friends!
