Re: Planning to work at Switzerland

You must remember your Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung. If you don't have that, then you cannot enter the country for work.

Also, at this time of year, you'll need some warm clothes. It's a bit nippier than Malaysia. It's forecast to be -12ºC this weekend...

Re: Planning to work at Switzerland

Thanks for your valuable information, I will check how to apply "Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung".
-12 'C, seem like I should apply for "Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung" then looking for job, learn German Language then only prepared for warm clothes.

Re: Planning to work at Switzerland

You probably won't get a work permit without a job. You'll have to apply and get a firm job offer, before they can let you have a work permit.

The problem is whoever may want to employ you has to prove to the Swiss authorities that a) there isn't a Swiss person who can do the job and b) there isn't an EU member state person who can do the job if they can't find any Swiss. Only then would you be considered.

It can be done, but the more specialised your field, the better you're chances will be.

Good luck.

Hi Medea Fleecestealer,
Thanks for the valuable information, seem like I need to get a firm job offer only I can proceed to apply for permit. I knew it's not easy, so I need to work hard on it.

You can't apply for a permit yourself. Your employer has to apply, and there is no guarantee of them being successful. Which is why they are often reluctant to apply unless you're truly outstanding and vital for their business.

Re: Planning to work in Switzerland

Yes, that's why it's so difficult for foreigners, particularly those from outside the EU countries to get employment here. Unless your skills are unique or potential employers are looking for something outside the norm, they are often reluctant to go to the hassle of trying to get a work permit for you.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't look for jobs just the same, but maybe also see if there are some international companies where you are now that might be able to employ you who also have offices in Switzerland. Then you might be able to be posted here sometime in the future. And obviously, if you can learn a local language, that will also help.

Re: Planning to work in Switzerland

Dear Neighbour ( I was from across the causeway but started living here in April last year ),

I'm just wondering what made you up and think that oh, I will just apply for a work permit and come to Switzerland.

Of all the places in the world...there must be a compelling reason. This places doesn't exactly have the nice weather and beaches that malaysia ( though it certainly does have cleaner air ) , nor does it have any measure of the good food ( and cheap ) that malaysia has ( be prepared to eat out for no less than 20CHF , even McDonald's meals are more than 10CHF )

And yes, as everyone has mentioned here in this thread, you can't just apply for a work permit. Your company ( if you are being posted to Switzerland from Malaysia, or the company that has chosen to hire you here in Switzerland ) will need to apply for the paperwork for you.

When you enter Switzerland, or one of the other connecting Schingen airports such as Frankfurt or Munich, you will be asked for: 1. Your work contract 2. Permission to enter ( and I'm not sure if an additional visa is required for Malaysians )

After you have arrived, you will need to go down to the canton office to register yourself as a resident.

Anyway, good luck and let us know if you need further help!
