christchurch earthquake escaper new to Zurich

Hi
I am brand new to Switzerland...just moved here from Christchurch, NZ following all the earthquakes. My husband is originally from Zurich which is why we have moved here.
Got a tip about the forum from a lovely man at a bus stop (he loves supermarket trollies with wheels and wears his underpants on the outside..thank you so much for writing the forum link on our IKEA box!).
I am struggling with the cold, no job, not knowing anyone and being crap at German!
I have got heaps of ideas of groups to meet people etc from other peoples posts already so thanks for that and more ideas very gratefully received.

Looking forward to meeting people and making some new friends

cheers
Pol

Wolli, what have I told you about the underpants thing?

Welcome to Switzerland Polly. I'm sure you'll settle in in no time. Check out the social events here and you're guaranteed to meet some great people. Big recommendation for the Viadukt meetings....next one is tomorrow.

Welcome to Switzerland!

Don't worry about the cold - it hasn't been this temperature in Zurich for over 20 years, so it will soon pass and Spring will be here before you know it.

Welcome to Zurich! I'm also a Kiwi, I arrived in Zurich about a month ago. I have family in Christchurch, but I wasn't there when the quakes hit. Although I've suffered a fair few aftershocks...

Let me know if you need to hear a Kiwi accent at some point! To be honest though, my accent isn't that strong.

Welcome Polly!
You'll soon settle in, and it will get warmer! My stepdaughter and family live in Wakefield near Nelson in NZ, we've visited once, you have come from one beautiful country to another beautiful country. Wrap up warm, hunker down for the winter with your German books and English Forum, you'll soon feel at home.

Cool kiwis! I am looking forward to go back to NZ for holidays. I have been on the Southern Island for a half year and loved it.
