I just arrived in Lausanne late last week from US. I am a graduate student in the US, and my advisor has moved out here, so I have an opportunity to work and study out in Switzerland for a while. I do not know very many people here, even fewer of whom speak english only so I stumbled across this board.
Soon I am going to try to start to take french classes out here, so may be I will have an easier time interacting with more locals. I have heard Darling's bar is very good, and lots of international people there. Otherwise, I am up to grab coffee with people, or I am hoping to explore downtown Lausanne some weekend(s) and it would be nice to have an english speaking buddy to do it with.
welcome to lausanne- there are a ton of things to do, even better when it gets warm! honestly the darling is only good for watching football/baseball games, to hang out and meet english speakers great escape, etoile blanche are better- if you are at unil or the epfl, you'll find english speaking friends to go out with in no time!
Welcome to Lausanne !
There are many expats here so I'm sure you will quickly meet a lot of English speaking people at the Great Escape or Etoile Blanche - but if you want to meet local people you definitely have to learn French
