Hello everyone,
After some years working in Dublin, I'll be taking a career break for a minimum 12 months, and I am planning on moving to Switzerland, probably around late Aug/early Sept, to experience life there on the ground there for a while and see how things unfold. I'm single and will also have a bit saved, which makes it a bit more straightforward.
I've already seen a fair bit of Switzerland these past few years, and my preference is to move to Suisse Romande - I'm fluent in French [C1], and worked in France years back, so at least theoretically I'd stand a better chance at finding a job there. I mean, my German is fairly decent [B1] as well, but my Schweizerdeutsch is of a shocking standard
Favouring Lausanne, as it's easy access to ski resorts, rest of CH, France etc while being a big enough city to have some kind of social life. My professional background is economist/policy analyst, but I do intend to be flexible as to which sector I work in, certainly initially anyway.
Also, just to say I stumbled across this forum last week, and the info I've already found here has been invaluable. I'll no doubt be weighing in with questions in the coming days/weeks/months, but it's been great to read peoples' own experience, - the good and the bad - on a whole range of things.
Cheers,
Paul
