Newcomer from Italy :)

Hi all,

I'm an Italian student of Computer Science (Master degree) and I'm 23 y.o. Precisely, I'm from Caserta, near Naples, in the south of Italy. And yes, I love pizza (which was born here!) and pasta

I would like to work and live in Switzerland... I know that is one of the most active country for the Information Technology sector!

I hope that I can be helped and then, in the future, help the new beginners like me

Welcome Konda, that's a nice introduction, and your English is very good too.

Re: Newcomer from Italy :)

Hello and welcome Konda. My father in-law is from Caserta as well but has lived here in Zurich for nearly 40 years. I might add that its odd and refreshing to see a young Italian writing/communicating in English. There aren't too many like you around(:-

I guess you're falling for a stereotype.

Of course many Italian mother tong speakers are no Shakespeares, and probably you won't find them on an EF neither, but OK so what?

Why should immigrants from Italy to Zurich (or their grandchildren) switch to English? Can't they speak German?

But it is useful. In general the level of proficiency in a 2nd language amongst Italians is dismally low. I assume poor educational system and lack of subtitled tv to blame? I am not being critical, just making an observation. I am Australian and we are the worst offenders by far.

Travelled throughout Europe and only Spain compares to Italy on this front. Impressed by level of English in Potugal and Spain, not to mention The Netherlands and the Germanic countries where it is amazing.

Benvenuto!
It happens that I'm Italian as well and I work in IT,
so if you have questions feel free to ask.

I agree, I have discussed this topic with friends many times.
Movies are always dubbed in Italian, and up to few years ago
there were no international channels available in the italian tv,
now with satellite tv things are slowly changing.
All that was left were songs, but many don't wonder what words
are being sung, and school but that's too little I guess.
Also it's a cultural mind set: in many cases don't understand the importance
of learning at least a second language. For this I was positively
impressed by my Swiss collegues who speak at least German, French,
and English, some even Italian, and some of them are taking
courses of say Spanish.
