| | | Irish guy, new to Zurich!
Greetings to one and all!
I'm a 28 year old Irish guy, moving solo to Zurich to start a sports law job in 2 weeks. Currently experiencing the characteristic mix of apprehension and excitement!
Currently on the hunt for accommodation (joy of joys!). Looking forward to discovering the city and using the forum, which looks brilliant.
If you have any recommendations, suggestions, tips or just words of encouragement, I'd love to hear from you. Sláinte agus go n-éirí libh go léir!
Barry

Hi Barry,
Where are you in Ireland? I'm in Dublin and am looking at moving to Zurich in July. I could help you with German if you need, I've lived in Switzerland and Germany before...
Tá mé ag foghlaim Gaeilge anois

Welcome Barry,
Don't worry, you'll love Zurich. It's a great city & it's easy to meet new people through various expat networks. Sports Law sounds interesting and if you're into your sports & fitness you'll have no problem filling up your free time here.
There's even a thread here for hurling in zurich if you're interested - Zurich GAA

If you are doing temporary housing, do not use Vision Apartments. Expensive, uncooperative, and they locked me out on a Sunday when I arrived in town and refused to answer the phone!
Other than that, hope it all works out for you. I just relocated here and am really enjoying the city.

Thanks for the message - hope you're enjoying all that Dublin has to offer. I appreciate the kind offer regarding German - thankfully my German is not too bad, I'm sure I will be getting plenty of practise from the moment I move over in 10 days! Be sure to drop me a line when you arrive over in July though - it'd be good to meet up and test out the Gaeilge/Deutsch skills!
Slán agus beannacht,
Barry

Glad to hear you're enjoying life in Zurich - having only been over for a grand total 24 hours, my knowledge of what to expect is pretty limited, but from what I've heard it all sounds pretty positive. Thanks for getting in touch!

Zurich GAA's reputation precedes it - I have actually heard quite a bit about it before even having arrived over! My main sport is soccer (I've played a couple of 5-a-side tournaments in the last couple of years in Prague and Barcelona, so hoping to keep that going) but I'll give anything a go. Great to see there's such a strong presence des na cluichí Gaelacha thar lear.
Thanks very much for getting in touch!

Hey all...seeing as I'm moving out to Zurich on Wednesday to work for the next while... and am filled with that mixture of excitement and shitting of bricks, the familiar feel of boards this sight has makes me feel right back at home..I'm big into the sports, especially the running, though fair to say out of practice for a few months, and am also looking for suggestions for taking a few german classes...so am open to suggestions on these and any other points ye have to give, especially any good pubs that are likely to show the Euro's in a few weeks time..
Cheers
