somewhat new to Bern

Hello all.. I'm actually swiss but was raised abroad in English speaking cultures. I've been living near Bern for a couple months and am really starting to miss contact other English speakers. I've found answers to questions I've had about switzerland in the english forum posts in the past while so thanks all as well for that! Anywho hi officially again and will keep an eye on the social calender for opportunities to meet new friends.

Re: somewhat new to Bern

There is a bunch of people here in Bern who speak English with one another. A friend is organising girls night out, see:
Friends in Bern

The night out moved to this Wednesday but you should ask her.

Re: somewhat new to Bern

Ah yes I did assume as much...finding the English speakers who want another friend is more what I was having problems with. Anywho thanks for the link but unfortunately I'm already booked this week. Seems like an active thread though so perhaps another time.

Even as a Newbie you can organise a meet-up. At the top of this page are Events -> Social Events where you can organise a coffee morning, a walk to Belp along the river, an evening meal, a party. It really is up to you!

Re: somewhat new to Bern

Welcome to the Forum, I live near you, but I am male and 68 years old. Maybe not the sort of friend you are looking for?

Are you young and female? My daughter is 21 and my son is 22¾ and both are British and have always lived in Bern.

Re: somewhat new to Bern

Thanks for the welcome and all those links in one neat package! Ohk..thought I needed more posts in create invites, but in that case next time I have a brainwave, I'll see if anyone wants to join. Yep, I'm a 23yr old girl and seriously don't care what age or gender my friends are...the more the merrier! Your children most probably know more about my country than I do. Are they also a part of the Forum? Thanks again and hope you have a lovely weekend!

We can always drink something tomorrow, if you want. A nice ice tea in the city during the day

Hi there,

Do you like engaging in sporting activities? Perhaps let the forum dwellers know what you like to do.

Whenever people come on the forum and meet up, I want to invite them out but I do stuff like climbing, squash or other sport-like activities. Let us know.

We also slack line in a park in Bern when it's sunny.

Take care.

Hello

I am also a Swiss in my 20s who grew up in the States and am moving back to Bern to start a new job on August 1. I would welcome the opportunity to connect with you once I'm in Switzerland and hear about your experiences integrating back into Swiss culture!

Hi back.. Sorry for the lack of info but I didn't know what you dwellers cared to know..Anywho.. yes I do enjoy activities that require movement such as swimming, badminton, dancing, hiking, boating, horse riding..etc. I've moved around a good deal so I've never become real good at any sport but enough to have fun.. Sometimes I just can't afford the gear certain kinds of sport require . Clueless me had to google squash and slacklining Don't suppose you guys were the people slacklining in the Rose Garden late last Thursday?!?! In any case I am always game to try a new sport if i can, so please do invite me if you don't mind having a newbie around!

Perhaps this is starting to drift towards nit picking... sorry...doesn't matter that much what anyone drinks really.. Swiss tea really isn't worth the discussion anyways.....

Sweet! Be lovely to meet you in awhile.. I'll help however I can if possible. Am still integrating myself and know it is vital to have a good sense of humor.. At the very least I'll be another friendly face on this side of the pond! Good luck with moving and saying so long to people and things you love.

Two areas, Breitenrain and Länggassstrasse

http://map.search.ch/d/tkwzgezym.html . http://www.wgzimmer.ch/en/wgzimmer.html?wc_language=en

But be careful! There are many scammers. Do not send any money or sign anything until you have been into the appartment and have a contract. Your 2 or 3 month's rental deposit must be deposited in a frozen account bearing your name.

Re: somewhat new to Bern

@Veronica: For that question I think you're better off searching the forum or posting a question in the housing section as I get 2 live in my parents' house outside bern and don't have any experience with apartment hunting. I'm sure there are plenty of forum veterans who would happily impart some of their wisdom to you...
