Friends in Winterthur

Hi all,
I'm looking for English speaking friends around my residence. I'm a female 33, with 100% employment in Zurich in an IT company and I'm living in Oberwinterthur with my Swiss partner. I'd like to get to know some people who I could meet after work, to sit in a park and talk about life, Swiss mentality etc. If I have a chance and find somebody a little sporty we could go for beach volley, hiking.. but the primer point is to have a soul mate in a foreign country. I was hoping to find those people among Swiss guys, but it just don't happen. Looking forward to read from you. Marione

Hi Girls,
I haven't arrived in Switzerland yet, but will be there in August.
Keep me posted if you want to arrange a catch up around Zurich area for coffee, vino, lunch or dinner.
I don't speak any German (although my partner is Swiss and speaks a multitude of languages) and I will no doubt find things a little hard initially.
It never hurts to make new friends.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers Sandra

Re: Friends in Winterthur

Hi, we live just down the road from Oberwinterthur, it's a lovely area.

There is an expat community here and some things are organised through the Winterthur meetup group - http://www.meetup.com/expat-125/. Anyone can organise a meetup and there are monthly drinks in Winti.

Yet another newcomer in Winterthur reporting!

I see that there's an event planned for Friday, 7th August on http://www.meetup.com/expat-125/.

I guess I'll go and hope other newcomers turn up as well.

PM me if anyone else is thinking of going there.

Re: Friends in Winterthur

Hello Marione and all the others!

I live in Oberwinterthur. I am Swiss but I'm married to a wonderful English man. If you would like to meet I am available. I am currently on maternity leave, I had a baby in June and sometimes I feel quite lonely. It would be great to get out of the house.

... and as a plus, I can explain the Swiss mentality

I will be arriving in Switzerland with my Swiss husband and 5 month old baby in three weeks. We will be staying in wald (Zurich area) and I would LOVE to catch up with other new mums around Zurich! I speak a TINY bit of German... Also I am looking for a travel cot and car seat if anyone can help out!

Re: Friends in Winterthur

Hi Mrsmojaykes!

That must be exciting but also quite stressful to organise the move with a 5 month old. Have you ever been to Switzerland?
I would also love to chat to other new moms. I could also teach you German if you don't go to a course. I'm a teacher and I teach History and German.

Re: Friends in Winterthur

Hi Laudine!
That sounds great. I am a teacher too - secondary English and history. It's kind of overwhelming moving with the baby but we have some family there so it isn't too bad. And yes, I've been a few times before just never with a baby and never in the winter... I'll pm you my details and we could get in touch when we arrive! Thank you!

The Töss valley is gorgeous, I ride my bicycle there a lot. I know Turbenthal and the villages around that area well from my cycle rides.

Welcome to our hidden secret valley :-)

A little off topic [sorry about that]

I am currently in Greece and i want to move permanently to Winterthur(lovely city) but I would like to find a job before I come there (...if that's even possible).

I don't speak German, studied Applied Mathematics for 4 years and drop off( ) (school was 5 yrs) worked for 1yr as web-developer (php, html, css, javascript) and 3yrs as a small network installer and PC technician (freelancer) additionally I know Java and Python3. I am addressing mostly to the IT crowd in the thread, do you think I have even the slightest change to get a job in Winterthur with CHF 3500 (gross) or should I start looking for cleaning crew jobs?

Because I am off topic( ) you can PM me if you want.
