Hello!

My husband, 2 boys (7 and 8), our chihuahua mix and I just moved this July.
My boys will be attending the French school in Basel (same program as the French school they attended in San Francisco).
We will be here for 2 years for my husband's work and I don't think I will be working right away ( I am a physiotherapist/Feldenkrais practitioner in the States).
I would love advice on settling in, learning German and the best ways to get to know this new land.

The best way to get integrated is, of course, to try and learn the language as quickly as possible. There are plenty of adult education options around (I started with the Migros Clubschule in Basel, but that was about 20-something years ago).

Other than that, when in Rome, just do as the Romans do.

Hi,
we moved to Basel last Monday and staying for about 5 month. I had a look on different language schools. If you would register at immigration office I think you will receive German lessons and integration course for free. Or if your husband did you should get some discount as a partner at this k5 school. The cheapest option I found is Migros klubschule. I'm thinking about taking intensive beginner course from next Monday. It's for about 670 / 50 lessons. Just heard there are too many students and it require quite a lot of self studying at home. Other options are schools like http://www.academia-basel.ch/en/, http://www.ecap.ch/, and some others. But they are more expensive.

Thanks so much for the info! I looked into the Migros klubschule. My kids don't start school until Sept, otherwise I would have been in that intensive course that starts next week
I will look into the other schools, hopefully I will find a good fit.

I just learned that GGG will start their language courses this month. I found them through the website of Basel University. They are not expensive, and have lots of sessions.

They organize trial lessons next week:
