I'm the new kid in town - 5 weeks young. My husband and I moved here from Seattle after putting in 2 years at Microsoft. We're both Canadian (he's also Brit.) so this crisp air has been a refreshing change from the fog and rain . He's already set up at his job (still Microsoft), while I have the enviable (?) task of contemplating what the heck I'm going to do here!
We're already half way through our German courses, but I've realized that learning the local language will also just take time. I've already experienced the AWCZ Living in Zurich course. I have an Honours BA in Social Work that I have not used professionally since I graduated 2 years ago. It is my assumption that I would be unhireable in this area until I'm more familiar with Swiss-German language and culture. Are there any suggestions out there on that front?
I'm currently looking into CELTA as an alternative. Perhaps private tutoring? Is there much of a market for that here?
In a nutshell, I guess you could say the "honeymoon" phase is drawing to a close ... we're on to "reality" now
p.s. I'm loving the public transport! Can't wait for my first hike out in those mountains!
