New + first post!

hey there, just found this forum and i think its great. Let me introduce myself. I have been in Zurich now for 6 weeks after moving here with my work, i am only 22 and its been a scary move to move away from such a solid group of family and friends in London. I am trying to build up my new life here but so far found it a little hard to make swiss friends, so i want to meet other expats in Zurich.
I will be living in Oerlikon, right now im near Hardbrucke and i am very much looking forward to my stuff arriving, nearly as much as im looking forward to the snow and skiing!

Any advice for setting up a new life in a new place where i don't speak any swiss german so far (apart from salut, danke and cioa)!

Danke

Jonathan

22 that's nice... I bet this is really a big step for you.

*wish I could have this kind of chance when I were at your age :P , but it's not too late now tho*

I have to say it's not easy to make local swiss, but ... luckily I know a couple from work, and by chance from the net. So maybe when I could intro them to you one day

on your subject of getting to London, you'll soon find the tax and fuel surcharge for flights back to be upsetting - often more than the flight itself.

Good choice Oerlikon (despite what the lake-snobs say! ).

Watch the calendar and the events forums - nobody is going to mail you specifically about them, but you are always welcome

Re: New + first post!

yes will watch out thanks alot. Oerlikon the new side looks ok, kinda reminds me of Canary Wharf a little bit. The lake snubbers are snubbbin it though, but for the first year i want to be close to the office and airport!

Re: New + first post!

Exactly!!!

Imagine if I want to go home, then I have to take a 13 hours flight the least just on the plane, then another hour to get out of the airport and take the transport home..

So u should feel lucky my dear

Re: New + first post!

Hey!
I'm so glad you join us! I was feeling the slightest bit sad because I couldn't seem to find anyone quite as young as me in the forum, but now there's you! So tell us about you, what do you like to do? I already know some people our age around here which would surely like to make a new friend!
