Hi everybody! My name is Kostas, i am 31 and moving to lausanne, starting 1st of October as a postdoc at the department of medical genetics at the university of lausanne! after being at the greek army for a year and finishing my PhD in the Netherlands.
I hope to hear from people staying in lausanne and not only! Any advice on finding a place at least on a temporary basis (room/studio) would be highly appreciated!

All I can say is welcome and good luck! Be prepared to put a lot of effort into apartment searching. If you're at UNIL you might want to consider Renens as the city apartments are snapped up quickly.

There is temporary accommodation at the university but I think it can only last for 6 weeks. You are coming just as the university starts, which might make things difficult... Hopefully your departmental liaison can sort something for you?

Thnaks for the welcoming. I really dont know, yes finding accommodation (also at ''reasonable'' price) for the past month is quite not successful. I applied through the department for university accommodation which can last up to 12 months i was said. If a room or sthng at univeristy will not be found i guess i ll not be coming to lausanne..as i spent too much energy already. Anyhow!! thanks

I am also a recently arrived postdoc, but just slightly further west at EPFL. Finding a place is indeed extremely difficult, but you might find some sublets advertised on anibis.ch or petitesannonces.ch... these may be a bit easier to get than an apartment in your name (at least whilst you find your feet!) Also I second what chemboy said...is there a secretary in your department that could help? They can be rather helpful :-)

I will be joining a research team (geography) and starting my PhD at UNIL on October 1st (or as soon as my visa comes through). Can you please tell me more about the temporary accommodation at the university? I have not been able to find anything on the website and my department did not tell me about it.
