I'm a kiwi about to make the leap and look for work in Zurich. I will be going ahead (on the 18th Nov) of my wife who will come over as soon as I find work. We figured it would be easier for me to forge the way alone as I have an EU (British) passport to make job hunting smoother, it's cheaper, and I can couch-surf for a bit while looking for a room in a flat somewhere. Luckily I have a contact in Zurich who has kindly offered a couch/piece of floor for me to crash on for the first few days.
I'm an architectural graduate so will obviously be looking for work first of all in local architecture firms. I won't be looking solely in Zurich but will try and exhaust options there first.
I'm about to enrol in a one month intensive german language course which will hopefully make transitioning a little easier.
Anyway, glad to see such a lively forum full of people in the same (if not similar) boat! Nice to meet you all in the digital sense! And no, I am not a Hobbit.
My husband and I are moving to Zurich from Christchurch in Feb next year - fortunately he already has a job offer and we are winding things down here first. Maybe we can have an antipodean coffee sometime.
