My husband's job is transferring to Vevey early in 2008, so we're busy planning our relocation! We're very excited about it - he lived out there 10 years ago, but for me and our 2 year old daughter (and our cat!) it'll be our first time living abroad.

We're looking forward to being able to cycle and walk in the Alps without a 10 hour drive across France, and I'm also keen to try cross country skiing.

A few apprehensions, as it'll be a huge change, but hopefully we'll be able to answer some of our questions via this forum in the coming weeks.

I think you'll like it here. Hopefully you're into road cycling, which is awesome, unfortunately the mountain biking doesn't suit everyone's tastes. There are some good places for cross-country skiing around, the closest to Vevey would probably be at Col des Mosses, which is the pass that connects Aigle to Chateaux d'Oex, and there's also lots of good trails all over the Jura mountains. BTW, check out the thread on cycling linked to in my signature.

I have noticed that you mentioned your cat as part of your family. Before you pack up your computer take a look at this Thread. It will put a smile on your face.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The cats thing made me smile, if not my cat - he had his first rabies injection today so he's pretty cross. The cycling thread looks v useful, we're definite tourers rather than MTBers, so look forward to col bashing around the area. You may see us - we have a Roberts tandem and a trailer, so we're quite distinctive . And hope to meet Quinallex in a playground; from the web it looks like Blonay has a nice one!

If you are keen on find out what there is around for you as well as your daughters to get up to then join in the group. It is a very helpful and informative group that I am sure you will feel welcome at.
